I wonder how deep those pilings for the tower leg foundations go? We used to have to find bedrock, which in our part of the midwest was about 25'. Most of our land leases provided that if we left the site, the foundations would be removed "to plow depth"; more of an agricultural benchmark.

There were a few guys that would steal manhole covers; clearly stamped as "KCMO" [Kansas City MO public works]. Yet, there are a couple of scrap metal yards in the area that would take them. I decline to name them for obvious reasons.

You've probably already thought of this, but communication towers have huge grounding "rings" - heavy copper cable buried underground that circle the base of the tower and connected to the legs or base of said tower. With my old company we'd have people actually dig up the copper ground rings...

A familiar story. Could not have happened to a nicer {not} bunch of greedy clowns. :)

That must have been a pretty stout telecom site. If it's all coming down, I assume that any carriers that occupied it are long gone. I spent 20+ years in wireless telecom - a lot of those building tower sites - and it's even harder today to get a site zoned, built and leased. I could not...

    Sleek98's 40x50 Shop and house

It always amazes me how contractors and subs can be so unresponsive and still stay in business. Maybe they don't. That's a lot of work there. It has to be a good feeling to get it done...even if it was exhausting.

I loved that movie about Burt - at first it seemed odd casting Anthony Hopkins but it was a very very good film. Five stars :)

Fascinating. I never knew things like the Bison system existed, but then again I am not experienced in construction. I've always wondered "how did they do that" when looking at ingenious rooftop renovations. Well done.

Thanks for the tutorial on the plane. I have my dad's old plane that's in really good shape and just needs a going-over. I'm guessing it's a pre-WWII model. A lot of his old Snap-On tools that I have date in the early-mid 1940's. Looks great BTW

The Underground - car storage in KCMO

Most of the competition starts at $125+. The website has more details, but it may not be for perfectionists - dust is everywhere. The people that I know that are storing cars there have multiple classic cars that they did not have room for at home or were paying through the nose elsewhere...

The Underground - car storage in KCMO

If any GJ people in the Greater Kansas City Area have a need for secure, dry storage for a classic car or just a vehicle they want to store in a safe location, there is a new player in town. The Underground is a development of the Kansas City Automotive Museum and is an underground garage set...

32x28 Garage flush mount lift and 12ft ceilings

Nicely done. I like the powered lock feature. I've got an old Chamberlain unit that is still going strong. I've had to replace the backup batteries, but otherwise it's still reliable.
