There would need to be some really fine print in your insurance policy to include a provision for modified fuel cans. Maybe putting gasoline in a can imprinted with Kerosene and blue in color would be more dangerous.
There aren’t vents in new gas cans and haven’t been for a very long time...
Now we will need a new thread to discuss different types of pipe thread tapes and advantages/disadvantages to pipe dope. Also will need an in depth analysis of the plastic used in gas cans and compatibility with the PVC, pipe tape and pipe dope.
Endless supply of these if you’re near a truck stop or interstate exchange. They’re usually all over the side of the road. Or buy a new one, they’re not that expensive.
They do have singles. You’d need to call in and order them but you can get them. I’ve ordered some “replacement parts” from them and it ships free and is reasonable in cost from my experience.

If you work with small engines or lawn mowers or construction hardware or just older stuff, they’re common. I use them quite often unless I’m doing auto repair on vehicles built in this century.

Better to use cheap tools on something nice or expensive tools on junk? I’ve done both. And a mixture of all. Any of the tools seem to work just fine when used as intended.
No warranty or no returns?
I think their clearance stuff says As Is- No Returns. That way you don’t buy something off the clearance rack and exchange it for a brand new one.
