    Impact wrench questions.

No input on the torque wrench but the mid torque impact is going to be your best bet. It fits more places and has enough torque to do what he'll be needing it for. He may eventually want something bigger if he continues on his path, but the smaller one will get way more use even then.

Your Top 3 Favorite Tools of All Time

I was going to say the same. It's a great way to learn something that you can't find a teacher for, or look up part numbers, find instructions for tearing something apart, order parts/tools that you can't find local....they're amazing. There are some real problems involved with phones as well...

Thanks, I'd discounted Genius an option but maybe I shouldn't have.

1/2 long handle flex head recommendations

Most of my work is 3/4" drive, and what I can't get with an impact I use a torch. I'd like the Snap-on one for sure, but it's tough to justify the cost for occasional use. I believe you about the breaker bar thing though, my brother is a 6'6" ogre, and he hasn't managed to break his in 15 years...

1/2 long handle flex head recommendations

I'd love a snapon, but this thing would live at work and I just don't have the use for it to justify the cost of one. I would prefer to keep the cost under $150 Canadian. I'm from rural Alberta so used availability is almost non-existent. The available options on Ebay unfortunately come with a...

1/2 long handle flex head recommendations

I've run into a recurring job at work that I want a particular ratchet for. I'm looking for a 24"(ish) flex head 1/2 drive. It's an akward position that doesn't require a ton of torque, but I can't really get leverage behind it. The first time I fought with a double wrench and it took almost 2...

I picked up this stuff at various sales in the last little bit. The wire strippers, multimeter, extension and needlenose pliers were for a toolbag I threw together, the bits and holesaws were to replace the sets I brought to work, and the rest of the pliers I bought because it was only twice the...

Tools you thought you'd love and just don't

I have a Picquic muilt bit driver in my kitchen drawer, I'm actually quite impressed with it. To be fair though, I haven't used it for anything too heavy duty. Beyond that, I tend to agree that they're sort of a waste of time.

How often do you use 1/2" sockets/ratchets?

I use 1/2" about 1/3 of the time I need a socket...then again, the other 2/3 is 3/4", so I'm a little out of the norm.

Thanks for the advice. I checked it and everything looks good, but that would have been a pretty rude surprise.

A few things that I picked up for work, plus a mini Knipex pliers wrench that I picked up on a whim to keep in my pocket. The wrench was pretty expensive for what it is, but I've been wanting a wrench for my pocket for a while, and this seemed like a good option.

1 battery too brand to rule them all

I have Milwaukee and have been generally happy. I bought it as at the time, the m18 3/4" impact was the best one on the market, and it's certainly a great tool. I've generaly been happy with my milwaukee tools, though I find the big impact tends to wear out battery connections over time from the...

    12pt vs 6pt in 3/4" sizes

In my trade 3/4" is the most used socket set by far. Often we put more force on our 3/4" stuff than we should, as there isn't really room for 1" stuff in the trucks. I don't think I've ever used a 6 point socket with it, and in my experience you'll break your ratchet long before a 12 point...

    2023 Garage Sale Thread

Picked up a Gray tools 1/2" socket set for $15. Just bought a similar ratchet from Gray's online store for around$80 (canadian dollars, so like 8 cents American). Why couldn't I find the used one first?

Got this one on marketplace. Little rough around the edges, but decent canadian made box to throw in my tool locker at work for small stuff. Picked up a few things from Gray on a bit of a whim. I wanted some fairly plain jane 1/2" and 3/8" ratchets that were bomb proof, these definitely...

New Millwright: Gray, Mac, Snap on

One thing worth keeping in mind- in an industrial setting, you tend to lose tools as often as break them. I've spent 17 years now working oilfield, pulp mills, and mining, and I've seen very few people use expensive wrenches and sockets on a daily basis. It's pretty common to drop a socket...

Gray tools (Canada) - The forbidden fruit

I'd been looking for a plain jain, no frills ratchet in 3/8 and 1/2 lately, just something to replace what I've brought to work. I was planning on getting something cheap, but after stumbling on this thread, I noticed Gray was offering 15% off for a first purchase. I officially spent twice as...
