Taking the plunge and buying a flux core welder, would appreciate some advice.

I'll go against the grain and say buy the one you're looking at if that's what you can afford. I bought a cheap fluxcore welder from Canadian Tire a few years back when money was tight and I just wanted something. It did the trick for the time being, and allowed me to keep an eye out for the...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I replaced the leaf springs in my pickup today. Not the best way to spend a beautiful summer day, but what can you do.

    2023 Garage Sale Thread

Picked this up Facebook marketplace. Came with a bottle of argon, argon/co2 mix, a few spools of wire, and a pretty mint looking spool gun for $500 canadian. I've been wanting to get a mig welder forever to replace my crappy flux core machine, and the spool gun was an awesome addition, I have a...

Stabila angle finder level. My old chinesium one was out like 6° after about 6 months, so I bit the bullet and bought a decent one. Stabila definitely makes nice levels.

    Help me pick a welder

I wound up finding a good sale on the Hobart stickmate and ordered it. Seemed to close to the same as the Miller version to shell out the extra cash, and I couldn't bring myself to buy something with questionable quality and customer support. Thanks for all the advice guys.

Any reviews of Blue Demon 140 MSI MIG welder?

I think Canadian tire puts the Lincoln 140 on sale for around $500. It might be a bit more though, so might still be out of your budget.

Homedepot.ca has it listed at around $1500CAD. The ESAB listed in the original post is also in canadian currency.

    Help me pick a welder

True most of the horror stories are older. You've definitely piqued my interest. I have a month or two of saving my "allowances" before I pick something so plenty of time to keep researching. The everlast machines in my price range have much better specs than a thunderbolt or stickmate, and...

Tools to keep in a vehicle

In the wifes car I only really have the tire changing gear that came with it, as well as a small emergency kit with reflective triangles, jumper cables and first aid kit. We don't get too far off the beaten path so aren't too far from help. In my pickup I have a few more things. -water in the...

    Help me pick a welder

Unfortunately at the prices I'm seeing, i could by an esab and Hobart machine together for similar cost. I don't have the disposable income to drop on that anytime soon and part of the reason I'm looking at tve ones I am is it helps me get set up sooner. Out of curiosity, what kind of inverter...

    Help me pick a welder

Looks like they have some really affordable machines that fit what I'm looking for, but the prices seem a little too good to be true? Looks like there's lots of real life reviews available, I'll read a bit. Are they actually a reliable machine?

    Help me pick a welder

Local isn't really an option, there's only one store and last I looked they charged a pretty big premium for that reason. I suppose I should at least check. My first instinct was to go with the Hobart unit, so I'll probably end up doing that.

    Help me pick a welder

No worries, I appreciate the input. I'd rather spend a bit on quality than a disposable chinese unit that might only work for a week, but I don't want to spend big money something of questionable quality. My billshit-o-meter sometimes lets me down which is why I asked for opinions.

    Help me pick a welder

The manufacturers website lists CSA and IEC certifications, I'm really not in the know about any of these electrical standards groups though. Doing more digging, they seem to be related somehow to a middle eastern manufacturer called Joosha and the machines look similar. Seems like their engine...

    Help me pick a welder

It's definitely challenging to find meaningful reviews anymore, too often everybody gives a 5 star review before even plugging a machine in because it "feels solid." I figured people around these parts should have the knowledge and experience to help me pick the right unit. I have an...

    Help me pick a welder

I wasn't looking much at those as most of the results I was turning up had them selling for 1200 canadian pesos, twice the price of the Hobart. There seems to be a lot of people saying the two are almost identical units so I had discounted getting the miller. Looking again, I've found some...
