"S.R." Sockets? Can't seem to find any info.

Is that the only marking on the ratchet, or is it also marked Plomb? Is there a part/model #? I have a couple older Plomb/Proto sourced ratchets for Pep Boys' Artcraft store brand that only have part #markings that appear unique to Artcraft. Methinks LG is on to something. Now I gotta go...

Champion Flex Head Ratchet For a Dollar

gany is correct - that's the early selector switch for New Britain's Kilness round head ratchets. FYI, Duro-Indestro also made ratchets for Champion. I want to say there was a third manufacturer, but I'm having a massive brain fart on who it would've been...

Show us your vintage craftsman ratchets

IMHO, Craftsmans (of that MDF design with the variety of switches/selectors) being far more plentiful and popular back-in-the-day, are also more likely to be found abused or "rode hard and put away wet". Cleaning and re-lubing can work wonders. I've found that ratchets of the same design but...

    Hinsdale H12J Ratchet help

On my Bog 202A ratchet - kissin' cousin to your Hinsdale and Twertsy's Plomb - the pawl is a machined portion of the switch (not separate like early Williams) which is threaded on the end ( tip exposed on the drive stud side). Simply unscrew the switch out of the head and you should release the...

Williams S-51 Super Ratchet Reassembly Problem

Yeah, good luck, I can't add any more to what Gany and Jake have well covered. Dang you Gany, now I'm pulling a few ratchets apart to look for that pin :lol_hitti I can definitely see a little play/slippage between the switch face and the pawl I hadn't noticed before on a couple, but I'm also...

Williams S-51 Super Ratchet Reassembly Problem

If it absolutely won't spin around to point down at the handle, then it sounds like the pawl ball on the spring inside has popped up just enough to jam instead of compressing back down. I've had several ratchets apart to clean out with a similar design but only as far as you've gotten - never...

Williams S-51 Super Ratchet Reassembly Problem

Your switch position is way off - it should be oriented to swing from the 5 thru 6 to 7 o'clock to change directions - 6 o'clock being the handle.

    Williams B 51 innards

Interesting, never noticed this until now, but mine are the same as you've noted. I've also got what I'd guess is an earlier version of the 1/2" Superratchet, but it's only branded with a "W" inside a diamond, an "S" (no "51"), "PATD", "MADE IN U.S.A.", and it lacks the art-deco-ish swell at...

    Quick Ratchet ID PLEASE

Technically a Speedmaster ratchet, although a similar Penens/Pendleton-sourced Wards Master Quality one was made too (different handle/grip, and the name was branded on the rear plate instead of the grip). Both were Montgomery Wards brands, or maybe an evolution of the brand? Wards had several...

    A different Wardmastr Ratchet

Yup, have the 1/2" Wardmastr and Wright with that shaped reverse switch. You've probably determined it already, but that's not the original screw - the original fits down inside the switch to fit flush.

In short, no, none of the 9 Vlchek ratchets in the obsess... er, collection have the raised forged-in "star" characteristic of some Vlchek wrenches, or a raised forged-in number either. The Craftsman BT doesn't as well. There is one early 3/8" Vlchek slide switch ratchet that has a stamped...

Here's a couple of crappy cellphone pics of the 1/2" BT (top) and a 3/8" BE: I don't agree with AA though that the BT was made by Vlchek - I don't have anything else to go on except my gut feeling, but to me this ratchet just screams New Britain in design and style. And another one sourced...

    Walden flex head..

I'm thinking along your line, that they might be later production ratchets. Unfortunately there's very little info out there on Walden, or Stevens-Walden, or Walden-Worcester beyond what AA has, or scanned catalogs either.

    Walden flex head..

I've got that 1/2" flex version as well, although unfortunately it wasn't quite beefy enough. When I pulled it apart to clean it up I found the support cage that holds the sliding pawls had cracked and broke apart . Now I'm on the lookout for a 1/2" round head parts donor to get the...

The Vintage New Britain and Associated Thread!

Yeah, seems to me the non-slider ones are pretty common to find, while the slider versions aren't, and most always Craftsman when they do turn up. Saw a Husky w/ the slider once floating in 'da 'bay, but that's the only one so far. If you or anyone wants to expand the NB ratchet patent/brand...

The Vintage New Britain and Associated Thread!

Well dang it, I've had that patent for awhile but always had it in my mind that it was just for the modification/addition of the slider through the ratchet beam. It does describe the entire design though, doesn't it! Guess that means those style NB ratchets oughta be called Costello patent...

The Vintage New Britain and Associated Thread!

Yes, primarily the big 'ol early "war club" ratchets with the very long lever running partly down the beam for reversing (there's an otherwise identical one with a short switch too). There are a few others that apparently didn't see widespread/extended production, and I've never really looked...

. Well just when you think you've seen 'em all, another one gets fished outa 'da 'bay... A 1/2" drive Fors patent for Wardmaster. First one I've seen and snagged. :bounce: So.... the most recent brand list revision follows. New Britain Machine sourced or original patent - Kilness (K)...
