Is this really the best Craftsman ratchet?

Ref the original video review, IMHO his credibility went straight down the crapper when 16 seconds in he says how much he likes what is arguably one of the worst, cheapest, and poorest performing round head ratchet designs ever made in the US - stopped watching with zero interest after that...

    Kraeuter

As i recall some years back (10 or more?) Kraeuter ratchets/sets were selling for a pretty good premium on fleabay, but that fad appears to have passed somewhat - they seem to hang around longer and sell cheaper now.

Craftsman RHFT Ratchet Type Study 1968-2009

The QR is one of several reasons the Craftys have remained at the top of my favorites list. The non-QR ratchets just as easily, just not as convenient to switch sockets et.al.

Craftsman RHFT Ratchet Type Study 1968-2009

Well, they are my all-time favorite ratchets, and the first new ones I bought (not counting the meh pearheads that came with the big set). Also have RHFT sets of Master Mech, Easco, & NAPA QR and non-QR, Allen & KD QR, 2 of the 3 Armstrong versions with the fully polished sculpted handles...

Craftsman RHFT Ratchet Type Study 1968-2009

Wow, an incredible amount of work! The patent controversy and patent #/pat pend flip-flops are very interesting reading. For my ratchet obsession I've purposely avoiding getting into all the small detail differences you've outlined, but that's because my interest was in finding same/related...

    Craftsman ratchet selector???

Pop the plate and flip the gear around. In the past, some have said they like flipping gears around backwards like that to get a little extra head clearance in tight spots.

How many companies did sk make tools for

As far as ratchets go (so far, have or seen)- Artisan, Chrome Alloy, JC Penney, Klein, Kraeuter, Mac, Tiger Tools, Western Giant, and an unbranded USA. The SK brand variations include SK-Wayne, SK (inside the diamond), SK Tools, SK, SK Custom, S-K, and S K (with a dot between the letters)...

My holy grail ratchet - Craftsman Vanadium 1/2

Great snag and a really good eye to pick it out of a ad photo! So how does it reverse, press on the raised button and twist the drive stud?

The Vintage New Britain and Associated Thread!

I've intended for some years to post a more detailed post w/ pics about the obsess... er, collection, but moves, crashing computers, and (literally) piles of ratchets and ratchet parts keep intervening - I don't like to add a ratchet to the list until it's been cleaned and rebuilt/lubed (keeps...

    The Flex Head Speeder

Now that is a very cool and unique collection!! I can't recall ever seeing more than a few hinged speeders and def haven't had one.

The Vintage New Britain and Associated Thread!

I'm 99.9% certain it's an H, which makes sense. Unfortunately it's buried in one of 20+ shoebox-size plastic boxes with a **** ton of other ratchets, so I can't put my hands on it at the moment. Have no idea about sockets. A few discussions I had with some more knowledgeable Craftsman...

Hey Lugs, have not seen this Fors patent Craftsman? I'll have to look for the original sometime since these reduced size ones aren't very clear.

Ratchet jumble pick up, 1/4 Proto oddities and more

Wow, the repair boxes are very cool! I'd be torn between rebuilding ratchets and keeping the parts box contents intact, at least the parts that may somewhat belong.

    The Ratchet Collection Thread

I picked up 3/8" & 1/2" rebuild kits in the SK pouches some years ago at a surplus store. Only time I've ever seen a SK with the Easco style thumbwheel.

    The Ratchet Collection Thread

Oh their vintage at least for being a unique design - haven't seen any other ratchet brand with a gut and retainer design just like like these. Sure there are many unique ratchet designs (both actual and patent), but they're mostly pretty early in ratchet design history. These appear to be...

    Odd looking ratchet

    Stanley sourced IMHO.

Show Us your Vintage New Britain Mustang Tools!

Very cool to find a set that complete - I've only ever seen them a few pieces at a time. Late '40s to early '50s.

How many ratchet teeth do you consider fine tooth?

Well since this got resurrected I'll throw my nickle's worth. @ 45 tooth has generally been my dividing line between coarse and fine tooth. Unfortunately, technology and youth (as in not around in the old days of truly coarse toothed ratchets) have combined to try and rewrite definitions...

Unknown tool logo on 1/4 inch drive ratchet. Brand?

If that's an American Forge as Al B. suggests - and I've got no reason to doubt him - that is way COOL!!!! I've got 3/8 and 1/2 versions and have long wondered if a 1/4 is out there somewhere. Fantastic find!!!!

    The Ratchet Collection Thread

Mostly no, I've tried to avoid the "pointy A" vs "flat-top A", font/size changes, script vs block, patent # or no patent #, etc. Different brand names (and the evolution of brand names for effectively the same brand - read that as <SK>vs S-K vs SK Tools vs SK Wayne) on otherwise identical...
