Best Non-Marring Sockets for Wheel Lug Nuts?

I mentioned chrome socket because they're thinner wall in case clearance is tight. I use an impact socket to loosen though a chrome socket easily handles the loosening torque. Tightening is using torque wrench. After years of lug installation /removal by myself and various places, the wheels are...

Best Non-Marring Sockets for Wheel Lug Nuts?

A lot of interesting ideas and tools presented so far. However, if you're occasional DIYing in your driveway and only have a few wheels to remove/reinstall, would it be considered beneath the dignity of GJ to just wrap a chrome socket with electrical tape to prevent wheel scuffing or slip a...

What is the normal amount of grease on new Milwaukee track saws?

Yea, I was joking. Safety is paramount. Never worked with wood much. I'm not a total chickenshit but just never particularly liked using a table saw or RAS both of which my dad had. Only ever used a couple of times. An eye opener for me was when I ducked into the shipping department at work and...

What is the normal amount of grease on new Milwaukee track saws?

The next question might be how much bleeding is normal after attempting to use it.

20+ years old Harbor Freight digital caliper

I had a HF caliper for years with the fractional feature. It was handy for identifying fractional Allen wrenches that were too small or not labeled. And very few other things. But for things not an exact fraction it would read down to the 1/128" so you'd get **** like 23/128" or similar and then...

Low cost IR temp gun - anyone have the HF one?

Why white paint. Wouldn't black be better.

Low cost IR temp gun - anyone have the HF one?

I can identify with that. If I had to do it again I'd get a moderately priced IR gun, and if required, get an immersion probe and surface probe with thermocouple readout.

Low cost IR temp gun - anyone have the HF one?

Right you are about emissivity. Seen some wildly inaccurate readings on shiny metal surfaces. These things have really gotten cheaper in recent years. Over 10 years ago I bought a Fluke 62 Max Plus because of the adjustable emissivity and two laser beams that were 180* apart which defined the...

Extractor kit to remove bolt with rounded off head

I'd really consider heat and maybe shock also because with a good grip alone on the bolt head the shank could break leaving seized threaded portion still in the caliper bracket. Then it's time to drill that portion out.

How’s everyone liking the new gen m12 stubby impact? New buttons bothering anyone?

I've seen a few reviews of it and gathered a few things, both from the reviews and the comments (which can be informative). Here are the negatives which would give me pause if considering purchasing one. The mode switching through the trigger can be unintuitive and inadvertently change setting...

    DeWalt vs Milwaukee - question

What did you receive.? And, Dewalt wouldn't have it's followers and market share if their tools didn't get the job done. Depends what you got and what your expectations are. Milwaukee has a huge product line but that doesn't mean that Dewalt can't fill your needs. The big name tools can be a...

    Lightweight vice?

I have the non-clamp version, 4" swivel base vise--- SBV100. Made in Czech Republic. The swivel movement is very rough and only swivels about 35*-45* either side of center. It only opens about 2-1/4" also. I wouldn't buy it again especially since it commands the Wilton "premium" pricing along...

    Problems with CDI torque wrenches

Unless you have to have "the best", I'd think that for DIY, at a much lower cost, a decent made in Taiwan TW and a digital torque adapter for periodic cal checks would suffice.

VW Vanagon road tool box recommendations?

To the above I think I'd add before leaving Portland: some food/snacks and a thermos of hot coffee/soup. Wipers in good shape and washer fluid topped off. Roll of shop towels/rags and hand cleaner. Good flashlight. Roll of duct/electrical tape maybe. I'm not trying to suggest everything but the...
