    Massive window job

Re: Massive window jog I can tell you about Andersen that we put in our house - the windows come with a sticker on the parts. Build a database and write them all in including locations. We did not - BIG MISTAKE. We have a failed panel and Anderson won't talk to us. Hell, it took 20 phone...

    Framing around windows...

This - how it should have been done in the first place IMHO.

    Measuring DC Voltage

Cisco is having some real issues these days, especially in the lower cost end switching. By lower end, I mean 5K or so and down. Our PoE WS-C2960X-48FPD-L switching runs around $3K - but we're .EDU so we get big discounts. If your Meraki switch has limited lifetime, get TAC on the line and...

    Outlet boxes and drywall

I did OSB walls in the shop - in several places I did the wire drop thing, then cut a hole for an old work box and fished the wire out. Easier than marking and cutting OSB. Either way works fine IMHO. Point of order - you should be installing drywall from top down, not bottom up. Ceiling...

    Heating a 2 car garage

"Here", you can easily heat a 2 car garage with a 5kW electric heater.

    race deck

The drag strip used Race Deck for the ground floor of the tower in the "office" where you pick up run cards. The tower gets water under the skin any time it rains more than a little bit. The tiles were removed after about a year or so because of mildew/mold buildup under the tiles. The floor...

Garage door remotes do not work when classic car is running.

LOL - I have MSD everywhere, similar plug wires and never any interference on radio, lights, door openers, etc. Good fix. I've gotten where I just shoot the plug boots with silicone spray, easier than a Q-tip and the dielectric grease. 65A - that sounds like a Gen 2 unit with dual power...

Central TX Pole Barndo and shop

My only comment is that 10' wide is pretty narrow. This is what 12' wide x 24' deep looks like here looking from the bench area back.

Goodman central A.C. Not cooling but inside and outside units running.

    > But I have replaced the capacitor on this unit atleast 3-4 years ago. Before we replaced our old system 3 years ago - also a Goodman that hadn't been taken care of - it was eating a cap every year. Compressor finally got to where it was pulling more amps than it should so the entire system...

    garage fan

We have two of the tall vertical Lasko fans from Sams. Both work well and have been in use a long time - years. One is in the shop and I use it regularly. >All tower fans I have seen are gimmicky cheaply made and ineffective. Not my experience with he Lasko brand fans.

7/16 OSB over kraft faced insulation?

Same, how mine is. Also be sure and caulk the seams between the panels and at the walls to stop air movement. Makes a big difference.

    LP Smartside siding

I've used both - LP on the old shop and even though it belongs to someone else, we do a drive by every now and then. Built in 1997 and still looks good, I know it's only been painted by me. Current shop is HardiPanel. It's fragile before install and a ***** to work with, cut, panels are heavy...

How long should a water heater's hot water last?

30 gallon gas heater needs to be 50 gallon in electric to be comparable. 30 gallon electric isn't worthy buying unless it's an efficiency with one person and even then, it's light duty. The recovery on most electrics is terrible.

    Layout opinions

Go get a bundle of grade stakes and about 1000' of twine or other cheap line. Lay it out on the ground full scale, including staking out doors and what not. Even interior bench locations, lifts, etc. Walk it, drive in it, back the trailer up, etc. You'll find out real quick what works and...

Has anybody here built their garage THEMSELVES?

See my signature picture link - 24x40, done all but the concrete slab.

    Roof Pitch help.....3/12 ??

6/12 is more common around here, I'd no go less than 4/12. Not snow here - it's wind. My shop is 5/12 to save a bit on rafter tail waste. Wasn't a cost factor.

    Gutter question

Or just run it over the big doors and forget the rest. I'm about to rip 50% of the gutter off my shop, all them SOBs do is leak and leak right in front of the overhead door.

storage above garage, did we screw this up?

IMHO that's all done wrong, first thing I would have done was upsize the ceiling joists, then laid in storage decking. Those vertical members are not doing anything - you can't "add support" for ceiling weight by tagging into the middle of a rafter. That just increases loading on a rafter that...

Build Up Site For A Concrete Pad

Probably what we call "Bin 10" around here, used for driveways and roads and such. You'd want to water the hell out of it, then roll it with a big heavy roller, then repeat, to get it packed down. Just water and time doesn't really do it well. Sheets of OSB and a F-350 running back and forth...

    Will I regret a lift?

As a two post owner for several years in a tight building, I refute nearly all these claims. No way I'd get half the stuff in the shop with a 4 post. And, I can stack the door car over the dragster for two in a single space.
