Some questionable construction "methods" in a new to me shed/building.

I would be making plans to plate those trusses using some real truss references and to raise that whole thing up 8" to sit on a row of block. http://www.renovation-headquarters.com/plans-roof-truss.html https://www.selecttrusses.com/truss-calculator/...

    4 post lift wiring questions...110 vs 220?

What I found LOL was pulling $$ 10-3 cable for a 240V 30A breaker run to my two post, then opening up the connection housing to find 14 gauge wires running from the motor.

Buy a supply of dust masks today! (While you still can.)

The info I have says masks would be required on people WITH the virus, not people without. The transmission method is not fully understood at this time anyhow.

Need Suggestions - Car Hauler Trailer Storage

Our flat bed is parked outside, has been for years. It's a 2004 model steel bed. The only issue is tire degradation, but it uses car spec (not trailer spec) tires so they last longer exposed to the elements. It would just fit in our 24x40 shop, before I put in the 2 post lift. It won't...

2 Post Lift, Let's Do This!

That's what I have, love it. Put a new fuel system in the Falcon and I've had that car up and down over 50 times in a month.

    Conduit on two post lift

Missed this - no, it's a motor rated switch that breaks both legs. The plug is a cheat, glommed off one side of the 10-3 run. But then - the manual says 30A breaker, then you find 14 gauge motor wires in the control box. I haven't put a clamp on it, but it ain't pulling 30A. I've been...

    Which WiFi thermostats?

    >After the novelty wears off.......... The Ecobee works with Alexa and has a decent app. I don't usually touch the t-stat. The novelty of being able to manipulate the control via various means without direct contact with the device has not worn off in the last 3 years. But then - we're IT...

    Building a table hydraulic press

Probably good then that I bought mine around 1999! We have a Northern Tool here now and they do seem to have similar items but somewhat higher quality. I have not specifically looked at their 12 ton or 20 press units. The 12 here has done everything I have needed. We have metal suppliers...

    Building a table hydraulic press

I've been using a HF 12 ton for years without any particular problems. Way, way cheaper than trying to source metal around here.

    Best paper towels

Scott shop towels, in bulk from Sams. Find out where the surgical rags from local hospitals are sent for cleanup. They are - at least here - blue cloth "shop rags". They cannot be reused, around here if you hit the remediation place at the right time, a huge bag sells for $20 or so. Like 10...

What temp do you keep your shop at?

Never gets below high 40s inside even with no heat on. Mostly mid 50s unless we sped like a week being really cold. Which almost never happens. It's not been over 36 and overcast the last two days, be mid 70s on the weekend. I open the big door on sunny weekend days and let the slab soak up...

    Which WiFi thermostats?

We use an Ecobee in the house, works very well. Only ding I can give it is that the schedules program in 30 minute intervals and there are a couple that could really use a 15 minute increment.

    renovation vs destruction

    renovation vs destruction

I concur on the remodel permit process - wasn't intending to insinuate end running that process. I do it hear - it's easy and around here, asking for a permit sets you apart because nobody else does it LOL. Just be careful and get your hands on the written limits of what you can do in a...

    Measuring DC Voltage

We use all PoE and USB phones now. My network is always perfect, my bandwidth is unlimited - therefore I'd blame the phones. :bounce: I have 2960X-48FPD switches installed that are supposed to be 370w PoE (as opposed to FDPs which are 740w). I have a couple that will not allow 24 803.3af APs...

    Laminate flooring

THis or any of the composite core laminates would do it. Not to take anything from Lowes, but Sams seems to now carry a bunch of really thick stuff, in the 10~14mm range. Also same as a house - the top working layer is the deal. If you are worried about how it looks, dropping sharp shop type...

    Massive window job

Re: Massive window jog That's how the old aluminum windows came out of our brick house - heat gun to remove the large panes from the frame, cut center braces and remove the lower sash, run a box cutter around the interior to break paint/caulk from the window frame and protect the drywall, cut...

Garage door remotes do not work when classic car is running.

I don't know anyone that uses non-resistor wires or plugs. Including race cars. My dragster uses Autolite racing plugs and they are resistor, same with the 8mm Taylor wires. The door car uses Motorcraft plugs and Accell wires - same. The dragster also runs a 7AL-2 MSD that will knock your...

How much is a day of rain/snow going to hurt OSB roof?

Mine also got rained on in the ah natural state, no problems. The OSB I used for walking platforms on the joists when raising the roof had standing water a few times. It's attic flooring and no problems now after 9 years. The "out" side of OSB has a bit of a waxy coating that is designed to...

    renovation vs destruction

Primary criteria for a variance will be if someone else (or several elses) have done it already. The first car port in a neighborhood with no car ports is a *****. After that, the zoning board has set the precedent which makes it hard to deny the next request. If you are worried about the...
