    Show off your vintage lathe.

The lathe in the wrecking yard is a Lodge and Shipley Patent Head lathe probably built between 1910 and 1915. I recently bought an 18x96 Patent Head myself. You can probably find more info at www.vintagemachinery.org.

    moving a inoperative Bobcat

I blew one of the hydraulic motors on my New Holland skid steer a few years ago. When the truck arrived to winch it on, he had me sit in the seat and work the sticks back and forth to let the oil pass through the motors. He was afraid dragging it might damage the drive chains. My loader weighs...

Anyone heard of Trusscore PVC Panels?

I installed that on a car wash for a friend of mine a couple of years ago. It's pretty easy to work with, installed easily, and has held up well in that application. It does stain eventually, but it is easier to clean than painted concrete block because it's so smooth. You don't say why you...

New (to me) lathe. Where to start?

I'll give a second on Hobby Machinist. I'm a member there as well. I know there are some members on there in your area.

    RIP Sears Analyzer?

I bought one of those a few years ago at a swap meet. It works great on the old pickups I drive. Good luck getting yours going again.

I'd Tap That! New Procunier Tapping Head!

Would the lubricant be Anchorlube? I'd love to have one of those. I missed out on one at an auction because I wasn't sure what the cost of one new was at the time. I quit bidding at $100. I think the winner got it for $150. Wish I could do that one over again.

Looking at this Craftsman 113.21370 Drill Press

I've got one of those, may be one generation newer. Mine is a floor model and has a large production type table on it and only one switch on the face. It's been a good drill press. Mine is smooth and the spindle is tight. The only problem is it turns a bit fast for larger bits in metal, but...

    Metal Lathe in California

Head over to Hobby Machinist and register. There are quite a few members from the west coast on there and they are always posting ads for machines for sale. Plus, that is a forum exclusively for hobby machinists (there are some pros there, too.). Just like here, there are some friendly and...

May have found my most useless socket...

Years ago a friend of mine tore down an engine that had 1/4 inch 12 point bolts on the main bearings. I can't remember what engine it was (4 banger, I think), but I do remember he broke a 1/4 drive ratchet trying to get them loose.

    Who's got lathes?

Brownbagg, check out Mr. Pete on You Tube. He has a series of videos on just that. He is a retired shop teacher and must have been really good at his job. I really enjoy his videos and have learned a lot from them. Dig out the lathe, watch some vids, and get to making chips! Grinding bits isn't...

    Finally- 3 phase power

I was going to buy an American Rotary RPC, but I came across a Temco 40 hp phase converter at an auction. It's nearly new and in great condition. I can't wait to get my shop finished and power up my machines with it. I'm just a bit worried about the power bill when I get running!

That's a nice looking little mill. Congrats on the buy. If you aren't already a member there, go register at https://www.hobby-machinist.com/forums/. Somebody there should be able to identify your collet. There are some great folks over there.

ROFL I thought what I said made perfect sense. Nope, just dogs and cats.

    Key finder

Why not just put the keys where a three year old can't get at them? Maybe try putting them on a high shelf or in a cabinet?

I have a well and today no water... any advice?

In your photo the points are closed. IF they are getting power the problem is either the motor starter or the pump motor itself, more than likely. The best thing to do is find out who the best most trusted pump man in your area is and have him fix it. Unless it's a fairly shallow well (less...

    Cement Slab Thinckness and Rebar

Nobody around here has a forklift that will pick up these machines. I'll be moving them on skates. I do have a skid steer that I can do a bit of pushing with, but lifting either machine is out of the question. I hauled them in here with a tilt bed trailer.

    Cement Slab Thinckness and Rebar

I bought a 36x72 Lodge and Shipley last fall. It was built in 1917 but has hardly seen any use. From what I can tell it basically needs taken apart and cleaned really well before I start using it. The lathe weighs 14,000 lbs. I recently bought a Kearney and Trecker TF-17 horizontal mill with a...
