    Cement Slab Thinckness and Rebar

With my rambling above I wasn't clear; it's actually a 30x34 slab I'm pouring. I added six feet to one side of the original slab three years ago and am basically mirroring that slab to double my square footage. I want my machine tools separated from dirt and grit from welding and grinding by a...

    Cement Slab Thinckness and Rebar

I'm finally getting around to finishing my shop. It started out as a 24x34 carport slab. I added 6 feet to the 24 foot side to have room for toolboxes and work tables. Since then I've bought a fairly extensive set of machine tools, so my original slab was too small. Due to space limitations, I...

    Traded for Mini Lathe

I second the opinion on Hobby Machinst. Great bunch of guys over there. You have a lathe, you can make a new hand wheel. I've got a 9x20 and didn't like the small wheel on the cross slide. I too a piece of 1x4 flat bar and turned a 3 1/2 inch hand wheel from it. A piece of 3/4 inch cold roll...

Need help to ID this lathe

The guy selling it probably doesn't know anything to speak of about it either. All the turning tools are carbide, and that lathe won't turn fast enough to really justify using carbide. High speed steel would be much more economical for a lathe like that. If you are interested in buying a lathe...

Atlas 42 Drill Press Return Spring Cover broken-help needed

That should be pretty easy to replicate with aluminum. A replacement could be turned on a lathe. Where in Texas are you located?

Old vs New Cast Machinery - Hand Scraping is Alive (video)

If you enjoy watching that video, check out Keith Rucker at Vintage Machinery.org. He is currently rebuilding and scraping a metal planer from the late 1800s.

Acquired a TON of endmills from a retired engineer

I just bought a large milling machine, but I haven't got it ready to run yet. You might go over here: https://www.hobby-machinist.com/forums/ They have a buy/sell section in their forum.

    Monster Monarch Lathe

I'm picking up a K&T milling machine this weekend at a screaming deal because of this. It's been listed on Craig's List for two weeks and I'm the only person that called on it. It weighs about 12,000 lbs. It should work well for me working on farm equipment. I've already got a job lined up for...

    What is it? Wrench

If you work on old farm equipment you will run into 17/64, 19/64, 21/64, and 25/64 fairly often. Those sizes are also common on some aircraft parts made before 1950. That I DO know, but not the why.

    Columbian Vise Nut

Find somebody with a home machine shop. They could either make you a new nut or bore that one out and sleeve it with brass.

    Shop Press 20 Ton

I've had one for a couple of years. Since it will be within your budget, I highly recommend buying an air over hydraulic jack for the press. You can use the manual jack for lifting, so it's not a total loss.

Thoughts on This Older Craftsman Drill Press?

I've got a predecessor to that drill press, made in the '60s and '79s. Looks to use the same head, but mine doesn't have the light switch and has a larger table with T-slots. I really like it. The only problem I have is even on it's slowest speed it still turns too fast for drilling larger holes...

    Food Grade Lubricating Oil?

That was actually kind of my point for mentioning canola oil. It's ****, it's actually toxic, and food companies are putting it in more products every day. My wife has an allergy to it and gets violently ill after eating anything that has canola. Apparently a lot of people have the same problem...

    Food Grade Lubricating Oil?

Why not use Canola? It was developed as an industrial lubricant originally anyway. Now we eat it. Might as well fry our food in 10w40.

Anyone else like the widowmaker jack?

Years ago I stopped to help a lady change a tire on the roadside. I can't remember the make, but it was a German car, Audi or BMW maybe. The jack resembled a trailer jack, but had a small hinged tube sticking out from the side. The tube went into a hole under the rocker panel. Then you just...

Fay & Scott 20 foot metal lathe

Wish that was closer to me. I've got a friend that lives in Trenton, but I don't think that would fit in the back of his pickup.

    Shipping container rental

I sell and lease containers as a side business. For someone who only needs short-term storage or for a contractor who needs storage on a job site leasing a container is a very cost effective solution. For a 20 foot container locally I get a $300 pick up and delivery fee and $80 a month lease...

Sears Craftsman/Covel Horizontal Band Saw 108.22920

Thanks for the links, guys. I'm still not certain what length blade to get. I've measured around the wheels, but McMaster has blades listed on both sides of my measurement. I'd rather not spend $30 on a blade that either won't tighten sufficiently or is just a hair too tight to fit.
