Here’s one i haven’t found in the catalogs, but there is an open spot in the spreadsheet for this no. 71 C.Parker that I spied in the wild today. Another Parker, missing the screw retaining ring as usual. Still has the chain holding the key that locks the swivel jaw. peterpeter

That’s what I’m talking bout. Unusual design. Seems quite rudimentary. If it weren’t 2 hours away, I’d lay out the ten spot just to bring it home and take a closer look.

Here is a usual form. Anyone recognize the maker? Simple, clean lines. No over thinking in this design. peterpeter, whose parents over complicated his name.

Check. BFH applied, jaw out of joint, body into, and out of the electrolysis bath. Scrubbed with Dawn , steel wool and hot water. The jaw is having a warm soak, now. Recently turned to using a 6x9x1” graphite block as an anode. Fast, and very clean. Thanks for the inspiration peter, peter, I...

I started with an expansion bolt to push it out, as I’ve done before, rather than using that center hole. Nope. Hammered at a 3/8 brass rod through that center hole; that bent like spaghetti. So, I sacrificed a chinesium Phillip head screwdriver, and hammered remorselessly. Nothing. Lastly, I...

Great, thank you for that. I’d wager the swivel jaw pin has been stuck in there since The Great Depression. I’ve extracted a few, but this one is trying my patience. The swivel lock moved, with the influence of a soft hammer. Is it possible to take it apart?

I have an appointment at noon. Leo is a very interesting Yankee Mainer. It worries me that a woodworking vise is attached to a rim. If it is a coach makers, that extra long screw get bent easily from hammering, and that leads to a broken nut. I will find out soon, and send pics. I saw that...

Anyone want to venture a guess as to what I’m going to look at tomorrow? This is the one pic from the ad, and no description other than “very heavy”. I’m thinking it’s a Prentiss Coachmakers . What do you think? Peter, Peter who always loves a good mystery.

Heres a first. Going to pick up this 88 1/2 tomorrow. Seems these are always missing pipe jaws. This is missing the 4 3/4” jaw pads. Anyone have a spare set? Or will I be selling pipe jaws? peter, peter a guy so nice his mom names him twice.

Not much to look at, but this Columbian 604 1/2 caught my eye today. Guessing it’s early, as the model # is cast in, rather than stamped on. I don’t know much about Columbian, so looked it up in the database, only to find this one is entered, but no pic provided Not a welder, so I decided to...

Yet another Backus/Union/Millers Falls for the record. Looks like a super fine casting. Unfortunately, it also appears to be welded to a plate. Peter, peter hates pumpkin spice, loves the pumpkin.

It’s an old ad, two hours from me, and they’re asking a big price for what amounts to a parts machine. I haven’t asked, bcs I doubt I would travel that far for yet another parts collection. 🙂

Now here’s a mystery wrapped in a riddle. Have you ever heard of/seen a C. Parker no. 89? I do not see an embossed 1/2 on this vise, and the ad calls it an 89. There’s the 88, and a 89 1/2, and this one seems to split the difference by removing the front slide support! Pretty crazy, no? Or...

New to me, a nice example of a 1930’s C.Parker 975 5” 105# . Seemingly gently used, except when you look at the screw handle; several inches of it was snapped off. Peter, who needs better heavy lift techniques
