school me on air compressors, help me pick the right one....

You make a very valid point, although when it comes to the Eastwood compressor (or any rotary screw compressor, really) there are a couple other factors at play. #1 is that it has wheels, meaning you can move it wherever you please- the same cannot be said for most other large compressors. #2...

    R134a Self Sealing Can Tap

I have the FJC tap for the self-sealing cans, works just like it should. The plastic adapters like the one you've used don't work at all, it's best just to get the proper one and not waste the $4.

    Hf jacks

I have had the 'standard' 3-ton low profile for about 3 years, and I haven't had a lick of trouble from it. I've gone as far as removing and installing subframes with it, hasn't quit yet. I also got the orange Daytona low profile, long reach about 4 months ago. I like this one even better than...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Replaced the alternator in SWMBO's car. As Murphy's Law dictates, it had to give up the ghost on a Sunday, and on the coldest/snowiest day of the year so far... luckily it's a quick job, and the parts store had one in stock! :bounce:

Astro vs OTC ball joint press

I have the Astro kit myself, haven't had a single issue with it. If you can manage to bend the clamp on it, you've got much bigger problems to deal with!

    Show your new tool arrivals

I picked up 2 yesterday using that same coupon, this way I can have one charged and swap them out when one dies. I'm really liking these things so far, tastes way better than a flashlight in your mouth too :lol_hitti

Power Probe III vs IV, your take? DMM?

I have a PP III, as well as my trusty Snap-on DMM, a Loadpro, and a good old test light. IMHO, I would say the only reasons to purchase a IV are: 1. You don't already have a III and/or a quality(very important here) DMM 2. You want the latest/greatest or just don't feel like having more than...

    What’s everyone’s favourite tool

Here in the rust belt... Knipex Cobras. Worth twice their weight in gold around here, works like pure magic on all of the rusty fasteners you can imagine. I'll be the first to admit I was extremely skeptical when I first tried a pair, but I'll never be without them again.

Automotive coatings for Exterior door paint?

I've sprayed a few exterior and interior steel doors with automotive paint, worked out great and held up to heavy use a lot better than latex.

ASTRO GIVEAWAY - Introducing the 65SL (The 40SL Successor)

My Knipex Cobras.... or really anything Knipex. The Cobras have saved my bacon more than a few times (good old rust belt), although I always cringe at spending that much for a single pair of pliers. Granted, there are deals to be had out there on them if you look hard enough, but still I digress.

    Thanks to all you bastards

Hey, if you want it done right...:lol_hitti Besides, are projects ever really done? :headscrat Looking good, OP!

What are some affodable, but decent, R134A A/C gauges?

For occasional at-home use, I use this gauge/vacuum pump kit myself: https://www.ebay.com/itm/4CFM-1-4hp-Air-Vacuum-Pump-HVAC-Refrigeration-AC-Manifold-Gauge-Set-R134a-A-C/352239541988?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 Priced right ($95), good quality throughout...

So what do you wear when working on cars

I always wear short sleeves when working on cars. A bit of hand cleaner is much better than being arm-deep in something, only to have your sleeve get caught and most likely ripping it to shreds. I actually like to wear hospital scrubs when working on stuff. Super easy to move around in...

Cleaning Motor Oil Spots on Concrete

Same here... I didn't think Oil Eater would work as well as it does when I first heard of it. I used some not too long ago on a transmission pan, and it sucked so much oil out of it the black paint got dry and chalky! Worked great on the concrete as well.

What type of Torque Wrench do you prefer?

I've had my Snap-On click-types for ages, so naturally they're my preference. I've never been able to quite trust the new digital ones, so I haven't gone for those yet, although they do seem like nice pieces.

Locking flex head ratchets, I think I am over them.

This is the same reason why my only locking flex head is my SO SX80A. On anything 3/8" and 1/4", I loathe the locking ones with a passion. However, when I'm putting a lot of oomph behind that 1/2 ratchet at an odd angle (suspension/chassis work comes into mind), it's nice to know it won't slip.

What kind of a deal have you found on Snap On boxes ?

Man, I'm jealous of some of you guys. Anything in the same state as Chicago, you'll get a better deal buying one new off the S/O truck vs any box listed on CL. Used ones are way overpriced around here.

    The two wrench trick

I've done that trick with ratchets before, the Snap-On handles are the best shaped for this. That said, this is exactly why I now have an FLLF80 and a TLLF72 in my box. I've ran into a few situations where the standard 'long handle' ratchets were just a hand length too short. As far as the...
