    Hammer Drill vs Drill/Driver

Generally, compared to drill/drivers, hammer drill/drivers cost a little more and are slightly larger. The 2804 is the same length as the 2803. Thus, there's no obvious tradeoff.

Makita 18V Brush vs Brushless Impact Driver?

There is one hesitation. The XDT111 kits were likely sitting on the shelf since last year. The XDT111 kit comes with a 3Ah battery, the XDT131 kit comes with a 3Ah battery with fuel gauge. The XDT111 kit comes with the typical rapid charger, the XDT131 kit comes with the "standard" charger.

Makita 18V Brush vs Brushless Impact Driver?

I'd say go for the XDT111 kit for $10 less. The XDT131 is a good kit too, but you get only a little more power. Yes, brushless efficiency is good, but you're still going to get a LOT of runtime from the included battery. Aside for more power (which is very little between the two models) and...

    New Knipex Pliers

Before LB-1911 commented, I believed the same as you. After looking at his links, I saw that there's a new 86 03 250 . The new 86 03 250 looks to have the same new jaws as the black finish version, and there are textured differences in the handles...

    New Knipex Pliers

Oh. 86 03 250 has same model number. That's going to be a problem. Side by side, there are differences in the jaws and handles. It's going to be confusing for a while unless distributors differentiate between the two.

    New Knipex Pliers

Are you sure? The announcement I saw earlier in the month showed different SKUs. The new ones also have a dark finish, allowing for easier differentiation. Where did you see that existing tools are being updated?

Purpose of absolute origin on calipers?

Absolute origin sets the "fully closed" value, "zero" is more like the tare when you want to take relative measurements. As far as I am aware, you shouldn't be needing to set the absolute origin frequently. My Mitutoyo's even makes it hard, requiring a pen cap or similar to press in the button...

Black Friday Router lift deal, anyone??

If you want JessEm, Acme Tools carries them and IF history repeats itself, they'll have a percent-off promo on Cyber Monday.

To use or not use thrust bearing? That is the question

I can't visualize it, but if there's a shaft interface where you'd consider adding them, why wouldn't you?

    14” wide tool box suggestions

Under 15" is going to be really tough. If 18" was allowable, I'd recommend the Facom. https://catalogue.facom.com/uk-en/categorie/toolboxes-cases-and-chests/toolboxes/metal-toolboxes/produit/5-tray-metal-tool-box If it could be deeper, I'd recommend maybe the Festool. Your dimensions are...

Should I wait for a sale?

I don't recall ever seeing that model on sale during the holiday shopping season.

    Drill vs Impact

Yes, but it depends on the application. If it's the choice between using a non-impact 1/2" drive 1" socket on an impact wrench, or via a 1/4" hex to 1/2" drive adapter with a drill, I would probably try the impact first.

Help me choose a Craftsman Plunge Router

I bought one of the Cman Pro kits, around 12-13 years ago. Love it.

Late to the Ego party. Does Home Depot discount these?

No, at least not very predictably. You'll see some deals towards the beginning or end of a season. But even then, it's on specific models or bundles. I don't recall see any kind of free battery or %-off promos.

The Milwaukee Power Tools PASS/FAIL Thread...

I don't like their... sorry, I'll have to get back to you on that. I know that some folks are unhappy about their nailers, but I think that's about it. I don't hear a lot of buyer's remorse from local contractors or ToolGuyd readers.

Acme Tools 15% off 1 item

BF had specific deals. https://toolguyd.com/acme-tools-black-friday-2017/ CM had 20% off one item, max savings of $150. https://toolguyd.com/cyber-monday-2017-tool-deals/ There's no guarantee we'll get it again this year, but they did have the same in 2016.

    Who the !#/% is Tachlife

I've looked into them every time they emailed me, but I can't tell if they're putting their name on tools, or developing their own. I guess it's like the difference between Cheerios and grocery store brand "circle-shaped oat cereal." Sometimes they could be good, other times it's just motor...
