Air compressor lines in walls, why not?

Seem to me you end up insulating your compressor pipe when you put it in a wall. So now you are maintaining the heat of the air in the line, making it impossible for the water in the line to condense or the air cool to the point your water trap can work effectively. This could really be a...

    Brake cleaner: Chlorinated vs. Non-Chlorinated

http://www.brewracingframes.com/id75.htm I believe this is the article that started the "scare". Notice that the internet traffic about brake clean/welding started after the 2009 article. But it you read the article he burned liquid brake cleaner. Still I wouldn't clean something I was...

    derusting help

I suspected the the primary ingredient of Evaporust is Oxalic acid and have tried Oxalic acid for rust removal and it works, not quite as well though. I would use is to do the heavy rust removal and Evaporust as a final treatment. Mainly because Wood Bleach (100% oxalic acid) is about $8 vs. ER...

    Question for the Military guys

Base housing? Could you just build the storage out of wood and leave it for the next guy when you move? I suspect not, but I have never lived in base housing. I might be inclined to build a crate out of 2x and plywood and put it on casters. When the time comes to move just screw plywood over...

I would weld a mild steel tube with a 7/8 ID to the disc and slide the O1 pin in it and hold it in place with a roll pin.

    Garage Door Comparasion Advice

Thanks for the replies. The Amarr door was the Heritage 3000. After getting only one reply after two days I went with the Wayne Dalton door. Mostly because the installer was recommended to me. John, what make you say the Wayne Dalton door has thinner than 25 gauge? And is your experience...

    Garage Door Comparasion Advice

Thanks for your reply. I am thinking of crossing the CHI door off the list because both the Amarr and Wayne Dalton use 25 gauge steel vs. the CHI's 27. So the new question is, are the Wayne Dalton doors that much better than the Amarr doors to pay $600 (2 doors installed) more to get them.

    Garage Door Comparasion Advice

So I got three quotes for garage door companies and need help deciding on a door/installer. My doors are 10'x9'3". The garage is a pole barn and has a board and batten exterior so I don't feel the raised panel look works, so that limited the models I could choose from. The doors I have now are...

    Brazing 101 ,the wonder glue

I have some thing I need to braze. But I am concerned about the casting cracking as it cools. I know you can bury it in sand of lime to slow the cooling to prevent the cracking. But I would like to practice first on a piece of scrap first. Do you think and old disc brake rotor would work for...

Just bought us a lathe! Craigslist to the rescue again

Pratt & Whitney Machine Tool and Pratt & Whitney the aircraft engine were never really the same company. From Wikipedia: "In 1925, Frederick Rentschler approached Pratt & Whitney for funding and a location to build his new aircraft engine.[3] Pratt & Whitney loaned him $250,000, the use of...

Calling all Machinists for hire: HELP!

I have an old 50's Craftsman drill press that also had too much run out. I just pushed the chuck back into position with a drill press vise until the run out was acceptable. You will need a dial indicator for this. First I chucked up center drill and measured the run out marked the high spot...

Old tires sold as new. Scary information.

Not the products sold as "protectants". I was at a class put on at a major tire manufacturer in Akron and they brought out a set of four tires warrantied for dry rotting. This was the second set of tires warrantied for the same problem for the same customer in a short time frame. The tires...

    Question for GTO guys...Olds guys

The are a few little details in this thread that are incorrect. The original rope seal was made with asbestos and the replacement without the asbestos didn't work well. Then cam the BOP seal made of Viton (trade name of DuPont fluoroelastomer rubber). The BOP seal works well but can have issues...

    concrete in pole building

For the guys that live in cold climates. Was your slab poured with a footer to below the frost line? I also have a pole barn an would like to have a floor poured but in other pole barn build posts I have seen here, the slabs don't appear to have a footer even in the northern US.

    Ball Bearing Tool Cabinet Slides

I asked this question of the local MAC dealer figuring MAC must make a conversion kit. No dice I was informed that the ball bearing slides are thicker than the friction slides requiring a narrower drawer.
