    Structural Framing Question

Since it was mentioned twice, I though I would pass on some information I got from my contractor while I was having my new garage build (build thread to follow). LVL/Microlam's are not as strong as solid wood of the same dimension. LVL's are used where getting a single length of solid wood...

Funny thing happened at Sears today

When I worked at Sears, many moons ago, the only people that made commision were the people that worked in Appliances and Lawn and Garden. But that may have changed.

    3 ?

Miller does not own Hobart nor does Miller make Hobart welders. Miller and Hobart are owned by the same company (ITW), and may use some of the same parts. It's like saying Cadillac own/builds Chevy. I own a Millermatic 180 and looked at a HH187 at TSC and the drive assembly is no where near...

    The Ex-Files--acid sharpening dull files

I suspect that the acid is not sharping the file but rather cleaning out the gunk stuck in the grooves. Usefull no matter how it is actually working though.

torque wrenching VS tighten by feel

I typically use the universal torque spec "tighten until the bolt breaks , then back off a 1/4 turn". It works for me but then I don't work on aircraft. BTW don't aircraft use a fair amount aluminum fasteners? I think that would be a game changer as far a torgue vs feel.
