What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Started the removal process of the boat trailer fenders. The carpet on the fender bunks is due for replacement. The hardware is cooperating as one would expect from a 2008 boat trailer. I've broken nearly every fastener, the last few have an invitation to meet the cutoff wheel next weekend when...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

You know how you get good at doing something? Do in more than 1x, reps are key to mastering any skill. I have a 7.3 Excursion, it will teach you things by repetitions. My GF says its only reliable because I know how to fix it. I've done the starter and alternator 2x each while on road trips in it.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Confirmed trim relay part numbers on the Mercury. The up relay got stuck open yesterday on the water pulling up to the ramp. Disconnected the battery to keep the electric trim motor from running. Maybe a random anomaly, but it would have been larger problem in a different location. I'm going to...

@four.cycle They feel well made, the flex head is what I'd consider firm/ stiff in the proper manner, ratchet functions as smooth or smoother than any of my Craftsman or Gearwrench versions. Finish seems suitable and the 13mm fit right where I needed it on the outboard. I'm in them for $31 per...

Someone posted a link to the Duratech thin wrenches, which led me to these stubby flex head ratcheting wrenches. I had them in my Amazon cart, they went on sale, and I snagged them in Metric and SAE. I needed the 13mm one for the oil pump job on my Mercury outboard. Now I have the tool for a...

Since the carpet is out, might as well add a 3rd pedal and put a T56 Magnum in it.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Serviced 4 fishing reels, clean, lube and fresh line. Chased an " issue" with the fuel gauge on the boat. The gauge tested properly grounding it out to make it perform a full sweep. Connections were like I'd expect them to be.. Made a run to get 10 gallons of non-ethanol fuel.....and the gauge...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Banged my head 27x plus servicing the jack plate on the boat. I said to myself "Watch your head" then proceeded to bang it on the motor time and time again. MF#$#@!& The last thing I need is more impacts to my head. Jack plate works as it should, tilt and steering helm hydro oil serviced. 2nd...

Front struts, rotors, pads, sway bar links, oil change and air filters on my moms RX350. Everything went as good as expected, those sway bar links though... Allen key to hold them still and turn the 17mm nut off... tested me. It's done. Boat maintenance tomorrow on the jack plate.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

@welder4956 that's exactly the setup I use in the vise/ screw driver. Same choice in line I believe too. Yesterday - rear rotors, pads, shocks and sway bar links on my moms RX350. The front is on schedule for today plus and oil change and some air and cabin filters. Not quite the same workout...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Spooling - I use a large screw driver in a vise, a few large fender washers and a spring for tension. I'll post a picture later. I'll be back in the shop later. It's up for a revision, something dedicated to the task. I'm brainstorming the "right something" The rod holder came to be as a result...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Put together an idea that's been in my head for a while. Rod holder for when I'm stripping and re-lining my reels/rods. Mostly like I wanted it. The rod holder is a 15 degree one, a little steep for the longer rods. I may redesign it one more time, change where I use it... work in progress. I...

    rattle_snake's random shop projects v0.1

Boating stress is a real thing. The truck, trailer and boat all can fail even with the best PM schedule. My most relaxing days on the water are solo fishing or engine/ prop testing trips.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Oil pump on the Mercury is complete...some how. Tested my tools, ability and patience. The old lines were tough to remove, may be the originals since 2007. I ended up trimming them a bit to get a better seal on the new pump. Completed the oil pump prime sequence, ran it on the hose..runs...
