What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Some drill press progress. After burning through 9? belts, the base/ lower table surface is mostly flat and rust free. A bunch of wire wheel and paint removal work. I even de-burred some of the rough casting mess careful not to go over board and start a never ending chase of perfection. Just...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Oil change and fuel filter on the Excursion - No pics Messed with my drill press. Made what I guess will be an adapter plate. Switch mounted, motor mount as well. It's 3/8 aluminum, over kill for the switch but seems appropriate for the motor mount. The motor has a different bolt pattern, so...

Yesterday, worked on an idea for new power for my drill press. New switch arrived, used a scrap piece of aluminum which will be replaced by one of the proper size to get an idea of my plan. New Baldor 1/2 HP motor is scheduled to be delivered Saturday. I'm going to do a full mock up/ fit before...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Spoke to soon. I had to go back in it for a wire that was being slightly struck by the "fan". Ran out of skill and my luck expired simultaneously. One of the wires that comes out of the winded strands broke right where it exits.. I can't fix it. I'm going to finish everything else then come...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Drill press progress. I slowly was able to get the motor pieces painted here and there this past week. Re-assembly, some wring, new cord, solder, shrink wrap. Old dry wires are challenging to mess with... This is my least favorite part. The rest I actually enjoy, this..necessary evil...

A little progress on the drill press. Motor bells are in color and motor brackets and covers are in primer. Power cord arrived. Nothing picture worthy.Brackets and covers for the motor may get color tomorrow if the temp and time cooperates.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Messed around most of the afternoon on the drill press. Walked out and didn't look like I accomplished much. I do have the motor bells in primer, band cleaned up and motor hardware cleaned. The bearings are soaking for a thorough cleaning and fresh grease when I get some more time. Just doesn't...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Made 2 covers for the drill press base. Made from stuff around the shop, so no real money invested. Scrap plate aluminum, magnets, hardware and handles from screw drivers that were collecting dust. I looked for something more low profile, but couldn't come up with something that had any...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Easy paced work on the drill press. Finished cleaning the hardware and sourcing replacements as needed. Assembled the quill with new bearings and clean parts. Pretty happy with it, need one more large o-ring that functions as the bumper for the return of the quill. Roughed out the plate to...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Drug tools from the garage to the house to swap out a failed dish washer. I've been limping it along with some "reset" procedures I found online, it finally gave up with my patience.

    Sump Pump Back-Up Battery

Might just need "more" battery. m24 or m27 AGM Advanced Auto has these - I use 3 them in a 36v system on my trolling motor, They get abused and haven't flinched, year 4 now. They come in 24s and 27s too...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Worked on the drill press a bit. General cleaning/ degrease of all the big cast iron parts. Simple green and the pressure washer, easy work. Attempted to strip the paint to test its future and which process I'll follow. Stripper stripped exactly ZERO paint. No idea what paint is on it. I'm...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Blew my Craftsman drill press a part. Going to rebuild the one I actually use. I've rebuilt and flipped quite a few, this is one I inherited, it's not going anywhere. It's overdue for a good cleaning, bearings, lube and probably a fresh coat of paint if I can select a proper color. Put the...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Wrapped up my hammer re-handle project. Re-handled 5 total. Consolidated all my Dremel stuff into a mini tool box as suggested in the "Show me your mini tool box" thread. Stopped by Lowes for one, only odd colors, so I passed. Picked up a red one from Walmart, used a handle off a cheap Ace...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Had to bring them inside, shop is frozen. Drying the last coat / 3 of boiled linseed oil on the hammers I re-handled. I have 2 more small ones to do, waiting on the handles to get delivered.

    Helicoil Repair

I was going to ask if you ran it on/ off with electric impact/ ratchet tools. They do have an effect on fasteners coming out of aluminum, learned that myself even after reading the precautions from MagHytec on a transmission pan. Didn't think a 12 volt Milwaukee non Fuel ratchet spun with enough...

New radiator in the Excursion, No pics. Ended up having to get it from Ford, online order pickup to save a few bucks but still $$$ Almost wrapped up my hammer handle project. Glue drying on the wedges inside vs the frozen shop, then some final cleanup/ metal wedge. Pretty happy with them, first...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Fitting some new handles on some old ball peen hammers. Cracked the handle with a miss on the one I reach for most frequently. After inspection, 5 needed handles for the same reason. All but 1 are old ones I have gathered along the way. I started with the worst one first as a practice go. The...
