    Woodworking 101--Tools and Tips

I use Freud and Whiteside router bits. Both good quality.

    HF Braun Slim LED Worklight

Why would Craftsman change the light away from 18650 to 3X AAAs!? I guess it makes it easier for people who just want to buy alkaline at the grocery store, but that is such a huge downgrade.

Weller Heat Gun - Any reason not to buy one?

Any comments about the heat gun other than the mystery dimple?

    Tips for installing ceiling insulation

Yup, I wouldn't use the wires to hold it up permanently. The paper facing needs to be stapled to the joists to work as a vapor barrier, I assume.

    Tips for installing ceiling insulation

I did the first couple of batts with a hammer tacker because, yeah, nobody wants to squeeze a staple gun thousands of times. But the hammer tacker has its own challenges. You sort of need to have the right body position/angle to get a solid and accurate hit, which is difficult working overhead...

Dewalt 12v Cordless Impact Wrench more powerful than Milwaukee Stubby

Hmm, if that's the case I might get the bare tool for $149 and a two-pack of 3.0Ah batteries (DCB124-2) for another ~$80. Why pay an extra $120 for the kit when all it gets me is a 5.0 and a 3.0 instead of two 3.0s, plus a charger that I already have a million of anyway? (Okay, I know the...

Comfort Zone CZ230er and other heaters like it

I have the 7500W model and the heating element does not get red. I haven't measured how much current it's drawing, but when I look at the usage on my electric bills since installing, it certainly appears to be drawing full power. The circuit breaker it's drawing from gets slightly warm to the...

    Tips for installing ceiling insulation

ducatithunder - I'm using 8 ft. batts. I think they're 94" actual. Definitely not enough friction for one end to stay up while I staple the other. Wedging with a stick is a decent idea, but those Simpson Strong-Ties really look like the ticket. Should be really easy to install one-handed. I...

    Tips for installing ceiling insulation

I'm starting to install insulation in my garage ceiling. The ceiling is 9' high and consists of 2x8 joists on 16" centers. There's an OSB floor over the top of the joists, so I need to work from below. I have about 500 sq. ft. to insulate, so 50+ batts of paper-faced R19. I started last...

Dewalt 12v Cordless Impact Wrench more powerful than Milwaukee Stubby

Yeah, a single stack battery with 21700 cells certainly provides more power than a single stack of 18650 cells. But an 18650 double stack also provides more power than an 18650 single stack. So the question is which is more powerful, an 18650 double stack or a 21700 single stack?

Dewalt 12v Cordless Impact Wrench more powerful than Milwaukee Stubby

I'm wondering if the DCF901 and 903 will put out as much power with the 3Ah battery as the 5Ah. In terms of ability to deliver high current without too much voltage sag, the 5Ah battery has the advantage of two banks of cells in parallel, but the 3Ah battery has larger cells that can deliver...

Why Battery Side Doesn't Matter Much on Milwaukee M18 Impacts

An exception to this is the 12V screwdriver. That has a clutch that's really light on the lowest setting and adjusts well. All my drills just stay on 'drill' mode.

Dewalt 12v Cordless Impact Wrench more powerful than Milwaukee Stubby

What's the significance of one being "compact" and one being "stubby"? They look like pretty similar form-factors that are obvious direct competitors. If the difference is that one is a little shorter and fatter and the other is a little longer and narrower, I fail to see how that's...

    HF Braun Slim LED Worklight

I mean yeah, vaping isn't my thing. I am into high-powered flashlights that use unprotected cells for the huge current capacity. The cells literally have printed right on them, "DANGER DO NOT USE OUTSIDE OF BATTERY PACK" which is exactly what I do. In reality it's not particularly dangerous as...

Where do you buy small batteries for remotes etc? Coin cells and...

I buy coin cells at a local drug store, grocery store, etc. Needing to replace a battery like that happens maybe once every few years, so it doesn't make sense to keep them in stock or wait a few days for shipping to save a few bucks. Just go to a store and buy the one you need.

    HF Braun Slim LED Worklight

There's that, but also the fact that lots of vapes draw huge current. They need unprotected cells that can deliver 20A+. The people who do that are rightfully obsessive about their batteries.

    SK Tools up for sale?

I never understood these arguments for 6 point ratcheting wrenches. 1. I never really reef on a ratcheting wrench anyway, so who cares if it's a little stronger or less likely to round over a fastener? 2. Yes, you can turn the ring to many different positions to get the engagement you need...

    Combination Squares

I have a vintage Starrett that belonged to my grandfather. Still square but yes, the rule is not legible/usable. I use that head with the satin chrome PEC 18" and 24" rules I bought as blems. Very handy for laying out panels.
