carbide tipped lathe cutting bit replacements?

I usually buy my DCMT carbide inserts from McMaster Carr or the local machinist tooling supply. Sometimes, if I can remember in advance and have time to wait weeks for shipping, I will order them from banggood.com. I can and do mix these DCMT inserts up in a bin and cannot tell which is which...

Anyone else NOT like ratcheting screwdrivers?

About 10 years ago I bought the Snap-on hard handle ratcheting because everyone raved about it, and it went with my hard handle standards I have used it maybe 4 times, I dislike it. Waste of my time, drawer space and money.

Fastener geeks: have you every seen one of these?

This is pretty much standard practice when a metric manufacturer is asked to make non metric threads. It isn't new either. It goes back forever. The "Mad Metric" fasteners on a MG XPAG motor in the 50's are a good example. I am working on a 1936 Daimler 6 cylinder motor (a USA motor design...

Haul-Master lift cart (Harbor Freight) experience?

I have had the orange 1000lb model for almost 20 years now. It is battered and bruised, no longer has any urethane on the casters and will bleed down over the course of an hour. I'd buy another tomorrow if this one went missing. Perhaps I should treat it to some new seals in the pump.

Harbor Freight Inner Tie Rod Tool.

I just attempted to use the Maddox. It was a total failure. The "C" shaped inserts spread out and slipped at maybe 25ft/lbs. I am going to attempt to return it, completely unusable.

Harbor Freight Inner Tie Rod Tool.

I went to buy the Pittsburgh tie rod tool last night but it did not include the 38mm adapter I require so I bought the Maddox. I will find out this afternoon how well it works but it is a decently machined part

    Bang-for-your-buck measuring tool recommendations

I too use the features of my digital calipers dozens of times a day. For my use case I would need to carry a calculator and a dial caliper instead of my trusty digimatic. Even a $20 set of Harbor Freight digital calipers will give you orders of magnitude more accuracy than a tape measure and...

I need a mini belt sander, recommendations please

My collection. The Matco cordless 3/8" belt unit is garbage. The belt speed is too slow. The Cornwell Pneumatic 3/8" is my workhorse. Love that thing. Makes me wish we still had a Cornwell rep here. It replaced the Harbor Freight 3/8" unit after it had to be warrantied 5 times. No regrets. The...

12 pt sockets, what sizes do you find yourself using

Another non rust belter here. I use 12 point on anything without a second thought and never have any issues.

2 post lift won't go down the last 4-5 inches

That sounds like air to me. These are the bleeders on the lift nearest me, The Rotary brand next to it has a bleeder bolt in the center of the end cap on top You simply loosen that bolt and air will rush out, the cylinder will drop (you might need to stand on an arm to add a little weight)...

2 post lift won't go down the last 4-5 inches

Did you bleed the air out of the cylinders? Every time I install a lift they are slow and never go down all the way until I get all the air out of the system.

    Tube bender for smaller diameters

The first one you have pictured is a tubing roller. They will indeed to large radii but no sharp bends. The third is what I believe you are looking for. They are used for hydraulic tubing, AC lines, Power steering lines, and brake and fuel lines in steel, stainless, copper and nicopp. Easy...

What are/(were) your most USELESS tools?

This SK 1/2" socket is the most infuriating thing ever If you look at the end of the broaching there is a clearance groove back there Which means as you are loosening a fastener it will move up the broach and then spin in that groove. Then you get to do a little wiggle and twist motion to try...

    Open End Ratcheting Wrench?

I have had a set of Alden ratcheting flare wrenches forever. Rarely used but very handy when nothing else works. I have put a lot more pressure on these than I am comfortable with and they have never failed. Also very useful for holding a nut and positioning it in awkward places to start the...

Does anyone use 1/4in with larger fasteners?

A 3/8 fastener with a 9/16" head (depending on grade or fastener, fine or course thread and dry or lubricated) has a max tightening torque ranging from 31-51 ft/lbs. I have no issues using my 1/4" ratchets on those.

    Automotive slim folding light comparison

The best thing about the Braun light is the control circuit. The fact that after being on for a short amount of time you do not have to cycle through the other light settings to turn it off is awesome. The Braun also do not have the completely useless in infinitely irritating "strobe mode". At...
