Need suggestions for downsizing Dad's "stuff" (too much)

I always sort of like reading the answers to threads like this. What I would say to the OP is what is your time worth, and how much time do you have? To sell anything takes time. Yours or some one else. Any business that sells items needs to make a profit. They can sell everything or just a...

Induction bolt heater - use on 5/8s deep bolts and 1/4 inch nuts + heating paddle

That paddle option you are looking at, I doubt very much would heat up metal cherry red. When I bought mine it was more for removing emblems, hail damage, stuff like that. There is an attachment that sort of has a block type of thing on the end. I think it has two or more sort of metal...

Induction bolt heater - use on 5/8s deep bolts and 1/4 inch nuts + heating paddle

It is my opinion when you need heat, you need to heat what is around whatever you are trying to remove. If it is a nut, you heat the nut. If it is an exhaust stud, you heat the manifold or pipe. This is just one more tool in many that can do this. If I understand your situation, you have a...

Garage Door Torsion Bar is dented from set screws???

I would think you could get the bar moved enough to get out of the dimple. Changing that whole bar is a lot of work. I would also say if it is raw steel, I would paint a clear coat or something on it so it does not rust. If it rusts and you have any need to ever service it, you will have a...

Fuel transfer by repurposing auto inline electric fuel pump

I use a frame mounted electric fuel pump. I use it to drain fuel tanks when doing a fuel pump. Handling an empty tank is so much easier. Have no idea what kind of GPM it is rated for, but I can fill a 15 gallon barrel with ease. My set up is sort of like above, with out the switch. Just ten...

    Diagnosing air conditioning compressor issue

From a guy that does it for living never put a can of sealer stop leak in it. The dye is great and I would recommend it. To many reclaim machines have been messed up by the stop leak. Most shops will run from it, if you put it in. Most have identifiers now, that are not cheap, but it saves...

    Diagnosing air conditioning compressor issue

With out a reclaiming machine you will never know how accurate you are for charging. Unless You vent it all and start from nothing in the system. Not that I would do that, and if you did vent it, you would want to vacuum the system down. Likely a few tools you do not have, but it does sound...

    New Snap-on

I can not say whether the website offers returns or not. I buy everything from a truck. I am not sure about some of you guys. I would have never seen the defects some of you are showing. I put them to work.

    Ground screws (foundation)

I am not sure I would overthink it to far. You want a tree house type structure, with out a tree. On a steep hill with scrub trees. What is the use? How big is it going to be? If this is just a little place to hang out for the kids, that is one thing. If its going to be a kid mansion, or a...

    Snap On Repo Traded Tools?

A lot of truth in this thread. I would question the employers essentially renting a stall, and the tech being a sub contractor. You are an employee or a contractor, not both. Each one has its own rules. As a sub contractor, you must be able to choose hours worked. If some one is telling and...

    Snap On Repo Traded Tools?

SSdave. I do not want to get in the between the two of you. You make a valid point on small non identifiable tools. No numbers, how can any one trace ownership to them. Third party for sure, most of the time. Now if he tool guy showed up with the proper numbers on the box, and for the most part...

    Snap On Repo Traded Tools?

I didn't go back and read pages from years ago, likely read it at the time. I have had exactly four so dealers in my almost 40 years of buying tools. They have all been long time dealers or at least the route is owned by one. I think many are getting confused about the way SO sells tools. Most...

What is this tool used for...

Plumbing basin wrench. You use it to reach up behind fixtures. If you ever needed to change the sprayer hose on your kitchen faucet, about impossible with out one.

Adding single circuit at meter can

If I understand it right, just the meter is on the pole? You would have no way of disconnecting the power yourself would you. Maybe by pulling the meter, which the poco may have a problem with that. If just the meter is there is that not 220? Is that what you want to power off. For 110 you...

    New house building right now?

I think its pretty much business as usual around here. For contractors anyway. Guys that are doing remodels maybe slowed down. Unless the customers can sort of move out. Guys that do replacement windows, kitchen and bath upgrades. They do not want to be in a house full of people, any more than...

Snap On - any deals coming for DIY given state of economy?

It is sort of funny reading the snap-on threads. It is very evident many do not know how a franchise system works, and that is what Snap on has built. Call McDonalds and try to buy a bucket of fries, Call pizza hut to buy a bucket of their pizza sauce. Call budwieser and see if you can buy a...

    Slide hammer alternative

The bearing have to be pressed on the axle shafts. You could try the chain trick. I have seen it work. You could take some threaded rod and a coupler nut and sort of press the axles apart. Come to think about it a port a power with the wedge adapter might also work.

What are these bolt/fitting type things?

Just by the picture I would guess some old AC Clutch tools. Can not see the outer two very well, but the center one looks like the tool for pulling ac clutch hubs.

Pitman arm puller vs front end kit

Get the half circle one. Is designed for pitman arms, but works really well on a lot of tie rod ends. I have a slew of pullers. As someone said most pitman arms are only found on pick ups or truck series platforms, any more. Many you have to sort of swing the steering box to be able to use...

    Reasonable Parts Markup?

First off I do not think a few articles found on the web covers the whole repair industry. Are all shops on the up and up, I think most are, but for sure there are bad apples out there. By reading this thread you would think no one is satisfied with their car repair experience. As far as pay. I...
