Good small cutters for guitar strings

I have used Knipex cable cutters on all kinds of fine cables (solid, twisted, braided), although not guitar strings. I imagine they would do well. They are similar to the Felco @Zeus36 mentioned.

Best pliers for removing nails/screws/metal from tires?

I use Knipex Concreter's Nippers, which are more or less end cut dykes, to pull nails out of all varieties of material, including tires. If I don't have them handy, any plier or **** will work with a little effort.

    The Milwaukee addiction thread! :)

The M12 lantern and rover are both great. Both also have USB charge ports. I use them c amping and when the power is out in addition to using them as work lights.

New M12 Fuel Drill and Driver (foreground) vs. First Generation. Northern tool had the set on sale for $199.99 with a 4.0 and 2.0 battery, and I had a $20 off coupon, so I couldn't pass that up. I've had my first set since they came out, they've done a lot of hard work and are still going...

Hammers with broken handles. Are they worth fixing?

House handle is great. Wood handles, especially poly coated handles, dry out and loosen up. I handles hammers and axes with bare wood handles and routinely oil with BLO, including the top of the handle. I often set hammers and axes head down on a cloth soaked in BLO so they can soak the oil up.

Not a tool, but tool storage. I am going to be moving and looks like I may have to put most of my tools into storage for a bit, so I picked up some Packout components to get me through.

    Grinding wheel for cutting concrete

Diamond all the way! It is dirty work, a shop vac can make it less dirty.

    Wera Tool-Check Plus

At my previous job, I was essentially a customer service representative who managed technicians maintaining industrial type instrumentation. With the Wera Tool Check Plus, a Knipex set with mini pliers wrench and mini cobras, and a Leatherman Wave (when not flying), and a basic voltage meter, I...

    Bahco

I wonder if Armstrong / Dahaner made the Bahco sockets. I went to college in Fayetteville, AR around 2000. There was an Armstrong tool plant there and I picked up an amazing amount of high quality tools in pawn shops for very good prices. It seems that the Armstrong employees would buy at an...

    Odd size socket--57/64

One of those things that if you need one, you need one. Could you imagine the frustration if you ran across a 57/64 fastener and didn't have that socket?

    Today's road find

I find a lot of tools riding a bicycle, a surprising number of 1/2 and 9/16 wrenches given that cars are all metric now. I mostly find cheap tools, I figure they fell out of the back or a truck or through a rusty trunk. I once found a Paslode nail gun that took cartridges of some type, I gave...

    Please recommend a soldering iron

I have always had good luck with Weller. A few years back I got a Milwaukee M12 soldering iron, I would have never guessed a battery powered soldering iron would work, but it does. I don't know that I would use if for super precise work though.

Mowing your own yard and do you use gas or electric lawn equipment?

My lawn is .33 acres. I mow with a Honda push mower, I picked it up probably 7 or 8 years ago cheap from a friend who was moving. All my other powered lawn equipment is now Milwaukee Fuel. Weedeater, blower, hedge trimmer, and even chainsaw when needed. I guess when the Honda dies I will get...

Anybody have experience with Grey Pneumatic impact sockets

I bought a set of 8pt Grey impact sockets for use on square plugs, they have held up well for about 7 years of fairly consistent usage. I bought them on Amazon. Mine are made in the USA, and a very similar in finish to my Proto Professional line of impact sockets.

    Snap On Mis-stamped Flex Socket

If it were a coin, a mis-stamp would make it more valuable. I am not sure there is a market for mis-stamped tools, but you never know....

Milwaukee M18 Chainsaw – Any Good?

I am a big fan of the M18 chainsaw. Before I moved to town, I had a Stihl 200T, 250, and 460. When I moved into town, I had changed jobs and didn't really need them. I sold the 200T and 460, kept the 250. The first time I needed it, it had carb issues. I always run non-ethanol, treated, but...

    ICON 3/8 Semi-deep chrome

I picked up a set of the GearWrench semi-deep/mid-length shortly after they came out at a pawn shop for a good deal. 6-19mm with no skips. They are the set I grab when I am getting into something new. The ICON set does look like a good entry option, but the knurling is quite a bit less than on...
