    Elevator at church

It probably varies by region, but I've worked with a couple dozen elevator mechanics from all the major companies, and my experience has been pretty consistent across the board. This isn't meant to disparage the entire industry, I'm sure there are excellent mechanics out there but in my...

Are there separation requirements between a propane gas grill quick disconnect on exterior of home and an exterior GFI outlet?

I've never come across a strict black-and-white code requirement on this. Section 500 of the NEC references "quantities sufficient to produce explosive or ignitable mixtures." In theory, a large enough leak outdoors could qualify, but most small leaks would likely be too lean in open air to pose...

    Cheap impact

^ This. I just purchased this to keep in the office for when I inevitably get stuck doing a few tire swaps for coworkers every year. Throw in the lifetime service agreement it's a win-win. None available locally but it's getting shipped to my store for pickup.

    Anyone familiar with gate openers?

If I took a guess with experience servicing these it's probably right at the section where it's epoxy potted into the loop.

8 32 screws ok for a light weight ceiling fan or are 10 32 required

There is nothing in the NEC requiring a fan to use a #10 screw (-24 or -32). I always use the screws provided by the fan rated box or if the screws are missing use what the box was designed for. I've seen very cheap imported light fixtures and fans come with metric hardware. You don't want to...

    Automotive Diagnostics Scanners info

Thankfully, it looks like it's just Ford and GM for now, unless anyone knows of other vehicles (sure they're coming). The nice thing about these scanners for DIY work is that you usually only need one year of updates to cover most projects. Most DIYers aren't working on 2025 model-year cars...

    Anyone familiar with gate openers?

Cheapest solution is to swap to using something like a Cartell CP-4.

    Fastener question

A toggle bolt like @Firebrick43 pointed out would excel at that. Even if it loosens it's not like they're going to be able to back it out.

    Bad Tool Marketing Photos

Those things stink. The genuine Gator Grip made in the USA is not half bad compared to the Chinese clones but it's a hack regardless.

What was your first OBD2 scanner, and how did you choose it?

Don't remember the first scanner but let's have a round of applause for this not being a thing anymore. Still a fun book to read while on the can.

    Automotive Diagnostics Scanners info

Pretty much why the Autel MX808 is on sale right now. Picked up a MX900 and it works great with DoIP/CAN FD. Stinks you have to pay to do the whole FCA Secure Gateway but it works well.

    Fastener question

Whenever I attach an enclosure to a pole, I replace any standard hardware (bolts, nuts, etc.) that can be removed with regular hand tools with security-style fasteners. Will that stop someone who's determined to cause serious damage? Absolutely not. But it does prevent tampering by kids...

    Fastener question

I would swap out the hardware with security hardware but the pole mounts are your best bet.

    Cordless Drill and Impact combos..

@sgrammel. I have a Bosch set, GXL18V-27B22 NIB I was going to throw up on eBay or the marketplace but I never got around to it. Looks like your PMs are off so if you're interested I'll give you first dibs.

    Tested Husky Warranty Today . . .

It's quicker these days IMO to place my order on the way to Home Depot for pickup than to try to find someone to unlock the tool cabinet. I imagine at some point they'll basically move 100% to this.

    New adjustable wrenches

Yeah, honestly, as long as the jaws aren't loose and the adjustment screw is smooth, they're fine in my book. They're not high-torque tools or anything. I've seen Klein wrenches with horribly loose jaws and new RIDGIDs where the adjustment screw binds.

    Correct compression fitting?

I cranked down on a piece of utility tubing which has a pretty thin wall with an adjustable wrench until the compression nut bottomed out as a test for those interested. For the OP. If that's a compression fitting someone really cranked down on it...
