    Need help with new thermostat!

Found the manual: https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/e6/e6cef95c-dcdb-451b-a7d3-861972802242.pdf Interesting that the thermostat can work with heat pumps, but it doesn't let you manually turn off/on aux/emergency heat.

Big maxx heater ecobee 4 thermostat

Looks like you just need 4 wires, per https://www.mrheater.com/mwdownloads/download/link/id/30/ R/G/W/C for Power/Fan/Heat/Common respectively. However, I'd run 5 for future use/spare.

Wi-Fi thermostat on big maxx nest?

What if you turned the Nest off when not in the garage? There is a safety temperature that lets you set it much lower - down to 35 (default is 40). Eco Temperatures also goes down to 40, so when the motion sensor hasn't detected you in some time it will drop down to that level.

How much does a water heater REALLY use?

I wonder if these smart usage meters are needing the X2 setting because they don't know the voltage? 240VAC x 18A = 4320W 120VAC x 18A x 2 = 4320W If you need hot water and don't have a generator with enough output, an unusual (and slow!) method to get an electric water heater to do...

    Need a new WiFi Thermostat

    Dimplex Garage Heater

Hard to see from the diagram, but it appears there is a 480-240VAC transformer in use for the controls. At first I thought it was 24VAC, which had me confused as it would seem a bit strange to have a 24VAC blower fan. 240VAC makes a bit more sense. You could dump/bypass the transformer and get...

Not sure if the thermostat is the wrong one, but it does not appear to match the wiring diagrams you can find online or on the thermostat itself...

    Building new garage, heat source?

The advantages of two heating systems, at least in my opinion, would be: a) back up if one is out of service b) move even heat c) in the case of a heat pump or minisplit - the unit could be used in summer to cool/dehumidify. d) if using two different types of heat sources (say one on natural...

Quick recommendation to replace 2 75 Watt Incandescent bulbs in 2-Car garage

Just stumbled across some GE 150W equivalent LEDs at Lowe's the other day. I tried out two of them in my garage, which has 5 porcelain fixtures (2 just outside the area of an open garage door, 3 towards the back of the garage). Truth be told it was a bit brighter than the 100W equivalent...

    Anyone use automation?

I've had Wink for 6 years now. I've tolerated it, but mostly because it was free. They started charging a monthly fee recently, which I've been paying. Mostly because I just don't have the time and desire to switch, but a little bit for payback for the years of free service. Home automation is...

    New EV and Dryer Buddy

Did anyone catch that the OP mentioned the term "Dryer Buddy"? If I understand the Dryer Buddy website correctly (https://www.bsaelectronics.com/collections/dryer-buddys ), this device will automatically switch between the dryer and EV to prevent overloading the circuit. If that is the case...

Re-purposing HVAC Blower; Need Some Help

I think I would be tempted to just find a furnace control board to run the fan. Then use either an old thermostat or set of switches to select fan speeds by choosing heat/fan/A/C.

Enclosures for electric or electronic projects

Last project I did I stripped out the circuit breaker assembly out of an indoor panel board. Plenty of space, knockouts already there to use, and easy enough to drill through the back to use screws for mounting relays, terminal boards, etc. Even had screw holes pre-drilled for a ground terminal...
