    Garage Door Opener Wiring Question

In my area, the GDO outlet would need to be GFCI.

You know that trick to get a nut/bolt started without crossing the threads ...

I learned that trick way too late in life. In my 50's trying to assemble threaded irrigation parts into a backflow valve. Expensive way to learn....

Adding more electrical after inspection pass

Heat dissipation during high loads. Impossible to pull another circuit through it if needs. I've also seen it used on roof tops in AZ (which would be a violation (outdoors), if I understand correctly) where ambient temps can be 120+. Easy to see it overheating in that environment under any...

Adding more electrical after inspection pass

    I didn't say it wasn't allowed; I just wouldn't do it personally.

So I've been thinking of getting a car/truck lift in my garage....

Nothing yet. Maybe not at all. Plans changed. Just sold a 24 YO car I was going to wrench on.

    Elevate water heater tank

I put my water heater (one each electric/gas) on a disc of plywood matching the size of the heater. Works fine. But I'm in AZ, not BC. YMMV.

    HDMI question

Hi all, I'm looking at a new AV receiver (Yamaha) and noticed the HDMI ports each have a screw above them. I'm thinking it's a grounding screw, but don't know what to connect to it as HDMI cables don't have an auxiliary ground cable. Can anyone out there explain the use of that grounding...

Paint rubs off my tool box. How do I clean/shine it now?

I've used WD-40 to remove decals/stickers from my tool boxes, with good results. Paint stays on; stickers come off. Spray and let soak for 5-10 minutes, then work it off with razor blade.

    100A Subpanel Wire Size?

Some years back I had a sub-panel added to my house for AC compressor/future shop. Max load 100 amps. Main panel on north side of house; sub-panel on south side outdoors. It was a +- 70' run thru attic. Electrician ran 1-0 aluminum with bare 2ga ground, covered with sheathing. No conduit...

I do mean slab. Good catch. I had a 5" pour for the entire 24X40.

So I've been thinking of getting a car/truck lift in my garage....

I'm thinking of getting a lift in my garage. I'm leaning toward a 2-post but will entertain 4-post recommendations. What's your bias; 2 or 4 post? I've got 10GA wiring in place for 120/240V. Foundation was poured with lift in mind. Read today about a guy in Rockford, IL who was crushed by a...

Anyone rebuild their own brake calipers?

When I was young/broke/stupid I used to rebuild calipers. Not any more. Only thing that changed is my age and I'm not stupid any more. Still broke.

Breaker keeps tripping! Have checked a bunch, what am I missing?

I wired my new garage last year. I bought a couple GE 20 AMP GFCI single pole breakers for two outlet runs. Constantly tripping even with zero load. Long story short, both were bad (despite being brand new) and I ended up putting two GFCI outlets at the start of each of the two runs. GE...

Whats killing the traveling tool vendor business

Nonsense. Just look at the difference between todays' US Steel and Nucor. One dies, the other thrives. Very different business model. "Making steel to resell" is NOT a business model. It's a 10,000 foot view of a complex business process.

    220v wiring, right or wrong?

If that's a sub-panel, I'm pretty sure the bus-bar connecting the grounds and neutrals should be removed.
