    mac ratchet

I picked up a 3/8 drive Mac ratchet at the flea market over the weekend. It is a model X7R. It works, but the gear is a little sloppy. I've looked at the Mac website and the catalog, and I can't find any listing for repair kits. Does Mac sell them like Snap on? How is Mac when it comes to...

    Snap On F720 ratchet

Thanks for the quick response Diesel-Mech. Is this something the Snap On trucks would stock, or would I be better off ordering it off of the web site, especially since I would have to hunt down a truck since I'm not a professional tech.

    Snap On F720 ratchet

I was at the flea market this morning, and I picked up a Snap On F720 3/8 drive ratchet. I brought it home and took it apart to clean it, and there are a couple of the teeth on the gear missing. The Snap on web site list a ratchet repair kit for this ratchet for $10.00. I'm new to this, does...

    Gearwrench rachets

Advance Auto Parts has Gearwrench 3/8 rachets on sale for $10.00 off in their current add. You have the choice of the 3/8 teardrop, 3/8 teardrop flex, or the quick release 3/8 teardrop flex rachet. I was thinking about the quick release since I only have one flex rachet, and it's not a quick...

    Tales of Fathers & Shops

My dad will turn 80 in November. I remember back in the early 1960's when I was 4 or 5 years old, my dad used to take part-time jobs as a gas station mechanic (I'm sure there are a few of us on the board who remember when gas stations had mechanics). Back then it was rare for any business to...

How many drill bits do you have?

I've got alot, never counted them. My Dad was a Tool & Die Maker for 45 years, used to bring tons of drill bits home from work along with taps, end mills, etc. He still has boxs, cans, etc. full of the stuff on his bench at home, I'm pretty sure my son will never run out of drill bits in his...

What kind of music do you listen to in your garage?

I have a old boom box with a broken CD player, only the radio works. It's wired into some old Kenwood speakers and permanently set to the only decent radio station left around here, 98.5 FM Cleveland's Classic Rock. Because of the way my garage is wired, when I put the lights on the radio turns...

    Finally went all the way.....

The Proto, as you can see from the pictures, was the most beat-up of the four and the cheapest at $7.00. Today, I took it to the local Proto dealer and he put a rebuild kit in it, works like a new ratchet.

    Finally went all the way.....

.....to the dark side. I'm 50 years old, I've been working on cars for almost 40 years. For most of that time, I always used Craftsman tools. I'm not a pro. the raised panel wrenches, ratchets. etc. always got the job done, I was happy. I found the Garage Journal and the corruption started...

    March 22 Craftsman Club question

I originally posted this question because I have put off buying a set of gearwrenches because the metric sets have missing sizes and the cost of the individual wrenches in the missing sizes would be more than the sets are on sale. I figured that at 50% off, it would be a good deal, so today I...
