    How block & tackle releases?!???

Thanks. It was like a Chinese finger puzzle! With spray lube and putting it in vice, it has to have tension to work, pulling rope out away from it locks rope in place. With rope in close to other ropes releases catch letting rope out. Thanks! Sent from my SM-S205DL using Tapatalk

    How block & tackle releases?!???

This should be simple, but I can't figure it out. My Dad had some block and tackles, all made similar to these two. I have a great use for one now, hoisting something about 150# up for storage. They all have a locking mechanism (a cam lock I'd call it) and I get it to hoist and mechanism holds...

Repairing Wood Rot 6x6 Porch Post

I'm no carpenter but can't imagine doing that. Rotted ones should be replaced, and I'd carefully inspect everything else for rot. At the very least I'd cut them about a foot or so below rot and parallel with new 6x6 bolting together with galvanized 3/4" carriage bolts, washers, nuts. A bolt...

Running a gas line is how much?

Smart people headed South! Twenty inches is painful enough, 20 feet would smother a giraffe. Sent from my SM-S205DL using Tapatalk

    Garden hose fittings seizing up

On ebay or Amazon you can get brass hose ends, cut the junky aluminum one off. I've never tried a quick connect like for hydraulic or air. I wouldn't use teflon tape. Grease maybe, but I've never had a problem brass to brass. Sent from my SM-S205DL using Tapatalk

What kind of tools have you found in the road??

I found this in the lake[emoji38], apparently left by a trespassing fisherman. Before and after cleaning, $8 new...but free. Sent from my SM-S205DL using Tapatalk

    Boarding windows for security

Garage? Fire? Trapped? No escape window? Watch me make one![emoji38] Security would be a mean dog or simple alarm system until you make bars for windows. The 2x4s should be placed outside on ground below windows, nails sticking up out of them. Sent from my SM-S205DL using Tapatalk

    Show your new tool arrivals

We stopped by to visit my 94 yo Mom, Mother's day, found these down at the lake under water. After cleaning I see initials "JTT" on them. Who would waste their time initialing an $8 pair of needle nose pliers I thought...then I thought who would waste an hour cleaning them up! [emoji38][emoji23]...

Mechanics: Tips and tricks you've learned

Latest example: I have a 60 yo British car no spark. I ordered (quality I thought) points and condenser. A test drive down our road, turn around going back it cuts off. I push it along then up driveway (thankfully almost level [emoji2]). Guess what...no spark, Lucas ignition. I check condenser...

Relay needed for circuit boards repair.

Try Mouser or Digikey. If you know coil voltage, contact ratings, size, etc. you should be able to match a replacement. Sent from my SM-S205DL using Tapatalk

    USA made vice grip pliers?

I ordered two curved jaw vice grips yesterday, one USA made, other Germany. One has a wire cutter built in. I have so many old USA made Craftsman tools and over time I discover ones have walked off. (We had different people here in garage years ago...but not now.) I have straight jaw ones, mine...

    Tractor hydraulic help needed

I have a 2017 John Deere 3038E I'm trying to plumb in a hydraulic top link and spool valve. On back of tractor is power beyond for backhoe (I bought tractor new with lots of attachments). I have very limited hydraulic knowledge. The spool valve I got recently top ports go to cylinder, P port...

    School me on electric chainsaws

Second recommendation for 40v Greenworks. I've (abused) mine for years, works great. I have a Stihl MS291 but use this little battery one all the time. Quiet, light, cuts well especially limbs, small trees. Sent from my SM-S205DL using Tapatalk

For property tax purposes - is this "living area"?

I grew up in the country, high school I went to was in a little town which was the was the county seat. Over time the county grew and so did taxes. Now you wouldn't recognize that small town since they have a multi-million dollar administration building. The point is as a kid the county...
