    Best electrical tape?

Does OSHA ever visit these sites? Sometimes they get irate when energized parts are hanging out and tape would be unlikely to appease them.

Commercial electrical quote to bring in new service, too much?

Be glad you arent in PGE territory. I had to pay a $1300 engineering fee before they would even tell me what they would charge for my service upgrade (came in at $5k).

    Vacuum range on HVAC gauge

You dont state your location, so this may or may not be pertinent: the typical analog gauge set is reading pressures relative to ambient. So while a full vacuum can be indicated at sea level, that same vacuum will read around 26" Hg at 5000 ft. Micron gauges read absolute pressure and will...

slab over main pipe to septic?

If it is a straight run, whenever it fails it can be replaced by pipe bursting. Hydraulic expanding plug is pulled through, expanding every few inches. And a HDPE line is pulled in behind the expanding unit. Cast iron and ABS both break as easily as glass so a very straightforward repair. Only...

    Joining Multiple Garages After Inspection

Why not look into the variance process. Especially if neighbors are willing to sign letters of support, it may be possible to do the structure you want legally.

post frame structure breaking the rules

When it comes down it will be interesting to see the failure mode. I saw a similar “design” fail due to essentially zero roof diaphragm strength. Trusses likely designed for 240 psf but over a period a three days while the roof held no more than maybe 100 psf snow, the ridge line translated and...

    New Electric Service Cost

I recently paid $5k for "engineering" and connection of a replacement service by PG&E in CA. It was about 120 ft from the pole and they had a crew of 3 onsite for about 3 hours. They removed 4/0 aluminum conductors from the old conduit and pulled new 350mcm conductors through the new conduit...

Plumbing Question - Sink flexible tailpiece

That might explain why at least some of the flexible parts have a smooth bore.

    Waterproofing exterior wall on slab

Grinding a 2% slope on the slab, to drain away from the house, will improve the performance of any drainage detail at the slab/wall interface.

    Question on Nitrogen test requirements

Grainger has a full range of regulators with max outlet pressure as high as 4000 psi.

How is Water pressure and volume affected with line size?

You would be correct if the 1" pipe is long. But a really short piece of 1" pipe at 90 psi can flow around 200 gpm, which is a lot more flow than the typical house needs. So, as long as the 1" pipe is relatively short, the 1" pipe isnt going to be the limiting factor. The biggest issue is...

Welding a square tube metal building

It's very unlikely you will ever see that much snow in Florida, but if the snow load spec is incorrect there is a chance the wind load spec is also incorrect. It may be worth your time to get the design checked for consistency with local design loads.

Starting a new 40x60 Shop/RV Storage Need Ideas. Lots to consider

The debate about door height vs eave height seems to include differing assumptions about whether the door is gable end or in the eave wall. For a given eave height you can put a much taller door in the eave wall than in the gable end wall, after accounting for clearance of the door roll or...

Any sprinkler experts? Need sprinkler adjusted to 340 degree arc

Multiple heads. I have four structures. Two smaller structures have one sprinkler each. Larger two structures have two heads each. I only have 10k gallons so need to be a bit sparing with the water. If I had a bigger water tank I would definitely use more sprinklers, including extra sprinklers...

Any sprinkler experts? Need sprinkler adjusted to 340 degree arc

I have a rooftop sprinkler that I want to spray full circle except a very narrow spot (where a chimney is). Sprinkler is https://store.rainbird.com/sprinklers/impact-sprinklers/35adjtntb-brass-impact-sprinkler.html and per the web page can be adjusted to a 340 degree arc, but the wire adjusters...

What’s this dark color at the control joints?

It is amazing how little it takes to change the color of concrete. Even plastic sheeting laid on top to prevent plastic shrinkage cracks will leave a pattern of discoloration. I put plastic on my slab. Integrity more important than looks and I had no choice due to timing of the pour.

    Leak Detection

I have no idea what the current tech is but even the 1990s acoustic leak detection gear was pretty accurate. If I recall correctly, with sensors at two or more locations on the plumbing listening to the hissing leak sound, the phase angle at each sensor was compared to figure the distance from...

What’s this dark color at the control joints?

Looks like it got sawcut a bit early. Saw brings up superfine dust from the aggregate along with enough unreacted Portland to make it stick. I suspect that darker color won’t fade unless you use abrasive tools to remove the top few mils.

200amp service at a long distance

200 amps, 150' run, 4/0 aluminum is only 2.7% voltage drop for a 240 volt circuit. And even if you one of the GJ people with 220 volt power, would be only 3% voltage drop. And as a practical matter, feeders are almost never running at full current so typical voltage drops would be far less...
