rent or buy 500 gallon propane tank?

I own two tanks. A 500 that came with the house and a 1000 that I bought shortly after moving in. The 1000 services the house and the 500 was moved to the barn/shop. The 500 was built the middle of the last century so they put a new regulator on and pressure tested it. The 1000 was new (not...

    Installing PEX In Old Farmhouse

2 years ago I bought an old farmhouse that was vacant for years and had frozen at least once. When I checked the crawl space I found Galvanized, copper, PVC and PEX with an assortment of connections including sharkbites. I replumbed everything. I used 1 inch Uponor PEX tubing to the Viega...

Connecting dishwasher to 1/4" tubing at 148°F

Also, you may want to look up the specs for the solenoid controlled inlet valve for the dishwasher to make sure it can handle temps in that range. Most are made of plastic and may not play well with water that hot.

Adding zone control to an existing HVAC system

We started with a 1600sf house. Then we added on another 1500sf. Rather than try to have one furnace handle the whole house we replaced the furnace in the old house and added one to the addition so we have two separate thermostats controlling 2 separate handlers. So far it has worked out well...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Well since I have a Caddy with a Northstar engine, I worked on it. The Starter finally went out so it was time to pull it in and change it. Now for those of you who are unfamiliar with this task, It is important to know that the starter is located UNDER THE INTAKE MANIFOLD.:wtf: Once I got...

    Bandsaw question

+another! A few years ago I bought a HF saw. I spent a little while getting it adjusted right but I now use it quite often (for a non production type of guy). As mentioned above it is REALLY nice to be able go full RONCO on the thing and "Set it and Forget".

Options for 300' run to to-be-built shop?

That is good to know as I plan to upgrade the barn to 70A sometime this year. I am running mill, lathe, welder, compressor and lights currently but may add a mini split for part of it next year.

    remote door bell

I bought two of these 1byone units from Amazon. Each came with two receivers and a sender button (for like $17/shipped per set) The receivers plug in the wall and I set it up for separate chimes for front door and back door so I know which one to answer. I have a front door and back door...

Selling a home with a nice garage

We lived in our last house at the edge of town for nearly 20 years. It was always supposed to be "temporary" So I have been looking at houses with a shop for the last 10 years. When I first started looking most of the agents in the area didn't market the garage/shop if there was one so I started...

    propane heat...be careful

WOW! There are some real LP horror stories out there. We bought an old farm house that came with a 500gal tank. The mfg tag on the tank says it was built in 1949 and all the valves etc. are on the end (not the top). I called an independent LP provider and said I wanted a new 1000gal tank for the...

    Extension cord at Menards

Yup. My drywall crew was using my 16 x 100' cord with a power strip on the end with a heater and several tools plugged in to that. Next day I bought one of those cheap 12 x 25' cords for them to use. The downside was they could no longer warm their hands on the cord.

    Sump Pump Gurus Step Inside

In my experience with servers in my office when the "Battery Status" lights red it is time to replace the battery. The SLA batteries in backups take a beating because they're constantly being charged and rarely get discharged. A load test could confirm this. The issue is that while it may show...
