Current recommend for torque wrench calibration?

Have you got any real reason to suspect it's way off? The spring being wound up isn't necessarily a sign of it being so - it might not have been that way for long. It will cost you nothing to put it in a vice with a few weights hanging off it - and you've save $100 and the cal cert is actually...

Current recommend for torque wrench calibration?

How accurate do you need it to be? If it were me, I'd do a simple accuracy check at three or four places in its range using a vice and weights.

    Tool Storage Labels

Did I mention the fact that I'm a notorious tightwad? $48 for a pack of labels that I'd use a dozen of. :scared:

    Britool (Made in England) thread

My indestructible ratchet... The E73. It has a mere 12 clicks per turn, so 30 degrees per click, which is sometimes a bit awkward, but it's used on the types of fastener where brute force and a bit of ignorance is usually required.

    Britool (Made in England) thread

Interesting stuff. I started my trade with a basic set of Britool combos, rings and 1/2 drive sockets, all in a cantilever toolbox. Still got most of them, and been picking up missing items on the metric side, but I'm not too bothered about the Imperial gaps as I never use that these days. It's...

    Tool Storage Labels

I was going to buy a roll of sticky labels for tool storage drawers, then realised the answer was in front of me all the time. http://www.flexilabels.co.uk/help/template-for-labels The idea of this site is you fill up a template, then email it to them, and they'll print it out on sticky ones for...

'Your career' thread----separate pages for each?

Same here. Almost without exception, the people I worked for formed the impression that I thought they were assholes. It simply wasn't true, but they acted on that and then proved themselve to be assholes after all by behaving like it. As a result my employer ******* Radar got finely tuned, and...

'Your career' thread----separate pages for each?

I'm a world-renowned surfer of the Interweb, spreading joy, delight and happiness wherever it is in short supply. If you believe that... More seriously, I spent a long time on the tools, did a few other things then came back to the tools for the past decade. Now I'm on the run up to retirement...

I found a Lista cabinet for cheep....and got it!

Thou suckest mightily, verily. I'd keep the Craftsman box because you'll run out of space again, and until you find another Lista, you'd be back to square one. It's an immutable GJ Law - Storage Space Shrinks to Barely Accomodate The Tools You Have.

What brand Combination Wrenches grace your box?

Snap-On, Britool, Taskmaster, Stahlwille, Gedore, Facom, etc, etc. I recently set about getting some order in my box and decided to replace the missing S-O combos (there's nothing more despicable than a tool thief) with Taskmaster, as the T-M ones I'd bought in the late 80s had stood up well...

    Vintage tools I found

I picked up a set of Heyco open-ended metrics, one of which is pretty much identical to the rest in the set but is stamped 'BMW' and no Heyco stamping. BMW car or bike toolkit.

    Garage Door Insulation

My internal door were 18mm OSB, laminated with 1" polyisourocyanate (that doesn't look right) and faced on the inside with hardboard. All sections bonded with polyfoam glue and weighted down until cured. They're very effective, but draught-sealing is vital, as a current of air sneaking past on...

You ever get a deal so GOOD you feel BAD...?

I occasionally watched it too. One or two like that stand out - the old guy who'd picked up war loot immediately post-war in Germany (probably swapped tins of Army rations and smokes for family possessions, the one on the programme being very rare model train set, in boxes), and several times...

    Vintage Black & Decker Drill

Re: Vintage Black & Decker Drill About 30 years ago I found a WW2-vintage B&D drill on a farm, and I've just now looked it up - it was the same body as the "Electric Tapper" on this 1942 advert, and was stamped with the War Department spearhead, so probably used in aircraft manufacture in the...

Our snap-on guy just went out of business

Same here. Twenty years after buying it, a screwdriver end snapped off on me. I was 400 miles and two decades away from the S-O truck man I'd bought it from. I just happened to meet the local S-O guy where I was, he covered the repair at no charge and I ended up re-awakening my old S-O account...

My adventure in buying a Chinese Scissors Lift

Not surprised he was being evasive - it's "Keeping them honest" money. Without that, your toolbox would disappear and the contents would be sold down the market within a day.

    The repurposing thread

Repurposed Bisley(or clones) 6-drawer small cabinets, usually held quires of paper in offices. They're not BB drawers, but well made and slide easily. Drawers are 3" high, 11" wide and 16" deep, so provide a decent amount of storage area to augment my toolbox. At the moment they're taking the...

What's on your walls? Neat storage ideas!

I'm just working my way through this thread, and only at page 10 so far. Several of the ideas have been excellent and I'm nicking them. ;) A couple of derived ideas from me, that I plan on using... I was taken with the air-tool coupling as a tool-park, but balked at the cost of them in total...
