    Anchor in garage floor

I didn't know how much strength the Hilti fasteners my son used actually have. I just know they worked for him. FWIW, his project car is small. It's a Fiat X1/9.

2016 Mustang GT with a 1967 Fairlane body

It is stunning how well this is going together. I have to assume it is not as easy as you are making it look. Your ability to visualize how you want it to come together combined with lots of careful planning and skill really make a project like this possible. Outstanding!

    Anchor in garage floor

My son has a steep driveway, and placed four Hilti female threaded anchors into his floor so that he could bolt a Harbor Freight winch on a frame tdown to pull project cars into his garage. It worked well enough that they used it to help the forklift moving his Bridgeport get over the 2" bump...

    Water valves in vaults

Just sit a trash bag full of dry leaves on top of it, it off you are really worried drop a hand warmer into the vault to generate some heat overnight.

    Storing your "one-offs"

I store most of this sort of tool by usage. Inspection mirrors are kind of an exception, as I have one in the mechanics tool box, one with the endoscope, and one hanging in a screwdriver holder on pegboard above my workbench. The one over the workbench seems to get used the most. I've never...

    Secret Society of WD-40

I've never understood the hate. Sure there are better products for almost every application than WD40, but for the average Joe who is never going to buy all those different products it is a reasonable compromise. Even though I have at least a couple of dozen other lubricants, penetrating oils...

What is the attraction of Hammer Drills

Not all concrete is created equal. I have successfully drilled holes in concrete with an old Craftsman corded drill without a hammer function because it was all we had. It sucked and took forever, but eventually we had a hole. The size is lost to memory but was probably only 1/4" or so. The...

How much is cost a factor in your hand tool purchasing decision?

With regard to tool truck quality vs. higher end consumer grade: I am not a professional, no tool trucks stop at my house. I would rather own mid priced wrenches and sockets plus an induction heater than super duper wrenches and tools that are a few percent stronger. As far as country of...

What is the attraction of Hammer Drills

It all depends on the aggregate in the concrete. Where I live the aggregate is frequently crushed limestone, so hammer drills absolutely rip through concrete. With harder rock aggregate your mileage may vary.

Tool makeup diversity in your box

User name fits. I'm all seriousness, this is basically how I have purchased tools. My toolbox is a hodge-podge of brands, but I have been slowly upgrading... as I find stuff on sale LOL.

That shape may be challenging. Casting a mold in something flexible like silicone may help.

    Permanent Under Eave House Lights

There are a few homes in my neighborhood with those. Personally I find them garish.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I painted the one-car side of the garage's ceiling yesterday and hung light fixtures today. I have some wired replacement tombstones for the 4' T8 fixtures coming from Amazon later this week before I can finish. We are also upgrading our home network. I traced and labeled all the cat 6 cables...

Hey you guys pick heavy stuff up… what do I do with this thing?

Y'all probably already know this, but I'll state it anyway: Use hardwood cribbing, not pine.

Smart Plug for Garage Door Motor

Our garage door opener has been on an INNR smart plug for a couple of years. We did it so that a burglar breaking into a car parked outside couldn't easily open the garage door. It is on a timer and turns off every evening. If we get home late, we can turn it on from our phone. When we...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I finally broke down and began the project to finish the drywall in my 3-car garage. Over the weekend I hung the last sheets. For the last couple of days I have been mudding and taping, something I haven't done in about a decade. Mudding drywall is a perishable skill. Mine perished.

    MP&C Shop Projects

Merry Christmas and best wishes to all who contribute to one of the best threads on Garage Journal. There are only a few threads that I make a point of reading almost every day, and this is one of them. I have only taken up metal working relatively recently, but have learned plenty here from...
