    Air Compressor Outside?

Lots of people in mild climates put compressors against the back wall of the shop with a roof of sorts over it. Some don't even bother with the roof. Most here seem to stop upgrading when they get to 7.5 HP.

Are 3/8 impact wrenches all weak?

As others have suggested, air tools are designed for PSI at working/ dynamic pressure not static pressure. Depending on line size and length from regulator, 110-120 is not uncommon to get 90 PSI when the tool is working. Even with a 25 foot hose! Air ratchets are commonly available 60...

    Recommend me a Multimeter

Have you asked about warranty? Snap On multimeters have a 7 year warranty as far as I know. I use a Fluke 87V or a Vantage Pro.

Help...Anyone now how this control box works

Not sure about getting repair parts for your existing one starter, but this would be an example of a new 5 HP one for $119.95...

Who was the original MFG of this Husky tool box?

Wow, I bought the Husky version top and bottom in 2001 when I bought my first house about 20 years ago! The drawer locks are dumb pink plastic pieces that always split and fall off. If the box isn't level, good luck keeping your drawers closed. Anyone have a part number for those pink plastic...

Need some advice on an old snap-on air compressor!!

Or $20 cheaper on ebay $119.95: https://www.ebay.com/itm/SQUARE-D-MAGNETIC-MOTOR-STARTER-8911DPSG32V09-8911DPSO32V09-5HP-1-PH-230VAC-30A/190676794166?hash=item2c6538fb36:g:KFEAAOSwMo9a62bW:rk:1:pf:0 This is what I have on my 5HP air compressors and they work fine. I mounted them using the two...

just bought my first "real" compressor - is it too big?

Correct on all points. 7.5 HP is about 26 CFM.

just bought my first "real" compressor - is it too big?

I posted the specs for the pump earlier. 7.5 HP yes. 5 HP no. As long as you are running it within specs there will be no issues. A 7.5 HP motor by code requires a 50A circuit using #8 THHN (in conduit) or #6 NM-b (Romex).

just bought my first "real" compressor - is it too big?

Since this compressor was commonly sold as a 10 HP or 15 HP unit, and 7.5 HP motors typically use the same frame size as a 10HP, you should not need to adapt much here: 7.5 HP is commonly sold as a 215T frame $614.95...

just bought my first "real" compressor - is it too big?

Depending on work load, there will be less strain because there are fewer start-stop cycles on the motor, but the cycles will be longer. Also, running that pump at 7.5 HP would be less strain on it too, because it will only be turning 575 RPM. I would keep the pump, change out the motor to a...

just bought my first "real" compressor - is it too big?

That is a Champion RV-30A pump rated for 7.5, 10 or 15 HP at 575, 740, or 1045 RPM. If you are into changing the motor and magnetic starter I'd keep it. Even the tank itself is nice to have for extra air storage. I would be cautious of the condition and number of hours on it before putting...

    Compressor poll!

The Quincy name was built on the QR series. What you can buy on the floor at Northern Tool or farm and ranch stores is the QT series which is cheapened up considerably compared to the QR. Some of them don't even have magnetic starters. The Champion Centurion compressor is a decent unit, but...

    Compressor poll!

5 HP is really quite marginal depending on what you're doing. I don't blast, but I do use die grinders... and unless you are careful and choose one that is frugal with air, it's gonna use 20 some odd CFM and your 5 HP compressor not going to put out that much. Blasting is also air sensitive to...

    Compressor poll!

The QT5 and QT7.5 use different pumps. They both turn about 1,000 RPM. The Champion Centurion will turn 805 RPM at 5 HP and around 1,000 RPM RPM at 7.5 HP. The SB VT-735 will turn 845 RPM at 5 HP and is not meant for 7.5 HP. For 7.5 HP you would get the VT-745. Personally I would look to...

old kellogg air compressor with a hole in the tank

The cheapest way to go is to find a used compressor with a blown motor or pump but good tank and then move your good running parts over to it. Air tanks themselves are expensive. Search Craigslist, etc. For online immediate ordering you can get them from just about any industrial supply house...

Keep my compressor or go cordless...

14 years old... was the tank properly drained? Also, will you have 240V in your new location? They are not too bad to move, two guys can move them pretty easy. If selling choose the market where you will get more money for it. In our area something like that will not sell for more than $250...

    compressor switch replacement

Advise needed on replacing a compressor motor

I generally like to run them as slow as possible to deliver the desired CFM. As you turn a compressor pump faster it gets louder and hotter. A faster running (and hotter running) compressor is likely to introduce additional moisture into the compressed air. Maybe additional noise and the...

Combining two compressors for more capacity

Citation raised some good questions. 60 gallon tank compressors are often single stage and the tanks are NOT rated for 200 PSI which is what dual stage compressors tanks are typically rated for. Be safe! Check the tank data plate! Use a check flow valve to ensure the 60 gallon tank is not...
