Parking on top of a scissor lifts without "ramps"?

Here's a link to some ramps that are light weight, easy to move around, and 14" wide. More expensive than wooden ramps, but more user friendly. http://www.raceramps.com/4-car-lift-ramp.aspx

    Weather Resistant Wood

Here's another vote for Trex or another composite decking material. Wood used on horizontal surfaces outdoors has a limited lifetime, and gets to looking bad way to soon.

    installing a 240 v outlet

If you do decide to hire an electrician, be sure to keep your eyes open and ask intelligent questions. I rarely need to hire a professional these days, but whenever I do it is always an opportunity to learn new skills. Most contractors are very willing to tell you something you don't know if...

Do Bendpak lifts ever go on sale during the year? I have heard they usually do in December or January. Any truth to this or just wishful thinking?

    Header

My house was built that way unfortunately. My 16' wide garage door opening is now sagging about 1/2" in the center. I have several wide sliding glass doors where the stud placement limits where drapes can be hung. A real pita. I wish my house wasn't built that way.

Help ID Stanley bit Brace - Another Question

Ekegelmann's thread with a similar title peaked my curiosity regarding brace and bits sets I remember seeing my dad use back in the 1950s. I still use them occasionally when I'm boring a deep hole. The Irwin bit set ranges from 1/4 to 15/16 inches. The larger brace is a Stanley No. 923 - 10...

    Tekton & Great Neck Tools

Bought a Tekton 6" dial caliper on Amazon a few years ago which had very good reviews. I wasn't familiar with the Tekton brand, so I have been pleasantly surprised with the accuracy and repeatability. The surface finish and craftsmanship are what you would expect with quality tools. They are...

    Best Jack and Jack Stands

I have a set of four Powerbuilt 4-ton jack stands from O'Reilly. It was an in store purchase so I could visually inspect the weld quality before buying. There are many reviews on-line about poor weld quality in jack stands. So far it looks like a good purchase. I have a decades old...

Best tool you've ever found in the street

Found this pair of dykes sticking out of a flat tire back in the 1980s. The tire was damaged so badly I had to replace it. I have gotten a lot of use out of these dykes over the years, but it was an expensive acquisition. The large screw driver was found in the street in front of my house...

What's it worth? Late 70's (USA made) Craftsman 26" tool chest

Just to amplify NUTTSGT's thought a bit, I have a number of tools that once belonged to each of my grandfathers and also my dad. I have to admit I think of them every time I use one of these tools. The oldest of these tools is now over 100 years old. Quality tools never seem to wear out...

Does anyone know about homak took chests?

I've had a Homak unit for over 30 years. Not the most expensive unit available, but it has never given me a problem and is still going strong. There is a label on mine that says "Made in the USA". I don't know how my unit compares to the current production quality. If the drawers don't...

    Compressor sizing assistance.

I use a Porter-Cable pancake compressor (2 hp, 6 gallon, 2.7 cfm @ 90 psi). Over the years I have never come up short for air capacity. I run framing, finish, and pin nailers, and I have an impact wrench for tire service. I do this in my home shop....I am not in a hurry trying to earning a...

Atlas FM9SL flush mounted scissor lift

Does anyone have experience with the Atlas FM9SL flush mounted scissor lift? I'm getting serious about installing a flush mounted lift in my home shop. The Bendpak SP-7X (7,000 lb rated capacity) is the leading choice as I am familiar the Bendpak brand. Another possibility, though, is the...

    Welding Outlet Safety Switch

I would like to add a 50 amp welding outlet in my home shop. My house has 200 amp service, but both the meter outside and circuit breaker panel inside are far enough from my shop to make installing a welding outlet relatively expensive. However, I have an a/c compressor unit powered by a 50...
