pole barn: snow on roof slides off piling by exterior walls melts and flows into barn

Neighbor does. Last year the ice mound that formed in front of the garage doors....I had to take an axe and spend several days hacking the ice away it was bad. Snow bars help this year but w/ an old roof I hesitate to keep drilling more and more holes in it to install things- it creates another...

pole barn: snow on roof slides off piling by exterior walls melts and flows into barn

pics above are of the back of the barn. snow bars on the front above two garage doors help some (no pics as they're covered in snow)....I didn't put them the entire length of the barn as I wanted to see how they performed before installing. Took quite a bit of research to learn how to install...

pole barn: snow on roof slides off piling by exterior walls melts and flows into barn

+1 Im not sure a tractor could even scrape the ice mound away once its there. Also, the roof faces south so it gets afternoon winter sun which causes the melt/drip/freeze

pole barn: snow on roof slides off piling by exterior walls melts and flows into barn

below ^^^ as stated, its not just 'snow' coming off the roof that one can simply shovel or blow away, it drips and melts over days, freezes when it hits the ground and becomes a rock hard mound of ice. A pick-axe is required to remove it, if that. extending the roof line...the metal profile...

pole barn: snow on roof slides off piling by exterior walls melts and flows into barn

Wanted to post an update. Got a few 4x8s this Fall, had them sliced in half - thankfully HDepot had their saw back up and working (during Covid here they were not allowing folks to use it) Anyway, you can see the snow issue as it comes off the roof....and what I did here....put the plywood...

pole barn: snow on roof slides off piling by exterior walls melts and flows into barn

yea, but you have a tax problem :) French drain would freeze up in an instant here. Snow melts/slides off roof and hits ground, freezes, repeat; drains would be worthless. Yep. In summer it might help someone somewhere, but it wouldn't help this issue. floor drains would freeze up in my...

pole barn: snow on roof slides off piling by exterior walls melts and flows into barn

Yep, exact same issue. And, yea, it does become like concrete and one cannot remove it. Grading to that degree here isn't possibly unfortunately. I have the wood cut to slope the snow coming off the roof away from the base of the barn. If that ice/concrete is at least a few feet away from the...

    Ghostshield 8505 Vs. 8510

Ghostshield 8510 - so, a year later and any/all grease oil stains on my brand new treated slab- none of them wipe up. None. Feel like I spent a ton of money and time reading endless threads on this product, but just not impressed by the result. Could have spent far less $$ with the same outcome...

pole barn: snow on roof slides off piling by exterior walls melts and flows into barn

what does your "drip edge" look like? on home and garage?

Have been working out in the yard this week and got to thinking about 'bending' the drip edge out from the fascia along one end of my house which has no gutter. But, in thinking deeper about it, I started to wonder (as someone mentioned above) if this would invite bugs/bees/wasps etc to enter...

what does your "drip edge" look like? on home and garage?

So, I ran across this article below a week+ ago but most homes I see, even in wealthy subdivisions near me, do not have a gap, so its a bit confusing. That was one of the reasons for this thread. That and mine does not have a gap.....?!? So, what is correct? This small little detail is...

what does your "drip edge" look like? on home and garage?

its posted earlier i this thread. I didn't post it in my original post as I didn't want to chance biasing the replies on the 'right' way vs 'wrong' way. Wanted to see folks original thought first.

what does your "drip edge" look like? on home and garage?

Thanks. Actually saw that video already (good show). But I see most homes seem to have the drip edge flush vs offset. Am wondering why most roofers install it this way if its incorrect? Also reading if the gap is too much (or even there at all), that wind could rip the drip edge out in some...

what does your "drip edge" look like? on home and garage?

Thanks. Midwest here. Does water ever go behind the gutter? I think that's an issue if the drip edge is flush vs spaced outward a bit? I am trying to establish the correct way to install drip edge. Seems different sites list contradictory info so am curious what is on others homes? Maybe a...

what does your "drip edge" look like? on home and garage?

Asphalt roof. Does your homes drip edge lay flush on the fascia like in the picture? or does it have a gap behind it so its offset 1/2" or more from the fascia? I ask, as if its flush and not offset 1/2" or more, does rainwater just run down the front of the fasica? (ideally the fascia...

Does your homeowners insurance cover your pole barn?

Per the post 2 posts up...." "other structures"" seems common for many but are the contents of the pole barns covered? or just the structures themselves? Does ones homeowners cover the contents inside the pole barn? or just items inside ones house? (if robbed or a fire etc)

best fix for concrete slab chips?

there ya go, pop outs- have read about that before. I see some products locally but looking for a high quality solution that won't fail year after year so would like to avoid those. Will keep an eye out for Ardex products. Exact color match isn't a huge issue as it borders gravel and is often...
