Who has a gravel driveway/road that they maintain?

This. The weeds may be ugly, but they can be your friend for a gravel drive. You may consider even seeding 'better' grasses that may be easier to manage.

    "New" outdoor workbench

Yes, the intention was to put the vise on my indoor wood workbench, but for now, it will stay outside and I will see how much action it gets.

    Building a work bench

I am not an automotive guy, but wood for a tear down bench would seem to absorb all oils and solvents. I guess a masonite cover would help?

    "New" outdoor workbench

One of my daughters spied this free workbench while on a walk a few hundred yards down the block. "It's got a vise, dad!" Gotta love having lookouts! Anyway, it was at a home of friend who passed away a couple of years ago, and the new owners were only using the garage to refurbish Volvos. The...

Trailer pad for enclosed trailer next to garage - 8/7/2025 UPDATE

Yeah, that's looks good. Seems like a secondary benefit is that access to the back yard with a vehicle is now easy.

What do you do with your included assembly tools?

If is is "quality" furniture that may have some spare parts, I toss all in a bag and tape to furniture. Especially with furniture that will see future disassembly, like beds. Other tools get put in the in-the-house toolbox.

    Pivoting mailbox build

No pics, but I salvaged and repurposed an old rotating clothes pole (the kind that looks like a patio umbrella) for a rotating mailbox. It is friction held, but spins well enough to spin with plow spray. I have had to straighten it up a few times.

Garage indoor paneling, let's see your wood!

These are solid core, maple veneer sliding closet doors from a dorm remodel. Each is 22" wide x 92" tall and weighs 60 lbs. The door hardware attachments points were only on the top and bottom edges, and a metal insert for the pull. The non "pull side" was placed outward. I bought 90 of them for...

    Buying a workbench

My countertops are solid core doors, placed on lateral file cabinets. About 12', but they mostly just hold tools. Work is done on a metal workbench or on an old formica laminated computer table. The wood door tops are cut, stained, oily, and kinda gross. Metal only or formica for me.

    Any pole barn porch regrets?

Mine is a traditional shed roof porch coming off the gable end (pic below is still from construction phase). 32' long x 8' wide. Concrete floor is 8" wide, though with roof overhangs the ceiling width is almost 10'. Coulda, shoulda made the porch wider.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Not in my garage, but in my buddy's driveway. Big storm the other day, tornado warning, the whole bit. My friend and family are 3500 miles away on vacation and this happened. With permission, piece by piece my wife and I trimmed back the tree, taking time to assess load, supports, and so...

    Beginning wood working advice

This Back in junior high and then high school, the projects first started off with how to use the tools and what they could do. Handtools such as planes, sanders, squares, saws, etc. After that we moved on to basic projects that we would could use. The ubiquitous pump lamp (I made one growing...

    Fixed stairway or pull down?

Normally, I would say fixed stairs. Our attic space in our old garage had pull down attic stairs and they were rickety and too narrow. But your loft space is small, not a lot of stuff can go up there, so in this case I would apt for pull down like ddurrett posted. My dad did something like that...

A new playset for the kids

Wow, that is quite a project. For me, such a project would be easily done in wood, albeit it would take a while. I cannot imagine turning those pipes into a playset. Just prep for paint would tire me. It may be too late, but used playsets are all over CL and FBM, sometimes free. Nevertheless...

    which angle grinder for welding?

Don't like paddle or slide switches. Only "rat tail" trigger switches. I have the 25 year old version of this Porter Cable, though I could not tell you offhand what my amp level is. https://mobileimages.lowes.com/productimages/a6f0b3e0-c439-4b79-9f35-282b34c420b6/69236737.jpeg?size=pdhism

How would you dig a long, shallow trench along a fence?

What are you going to do with the excavated dirt/grass? Large chunks of grass/clay make poor fill, but can work in a compost pile or in a dirt pile. But, if you are going to spread it on the lawn and fill low spots, you will need to till it up. My suggestion would be to till it to your depth...

How do you store your tools, hitches, & ratchet straps in your truck?

Okay, so 12 years later, but the need is the same. Cheap Husky tool bag holds the hitches, hitch pins, Same size Makita bag holds straps, a bit larger HF bag holds a tool roll and loose tools.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Nope. Cracked (both before and during removal). Same with front panel, front storage box, spare tire cover, propane tank cover. Remarkably brittle.
