    Slab tilt

Wife said that balls will roll (she's had daycare kids), but still not much. The problem is that the exposed frost wall is too wide to be covered by trim. The frost wall lip is too much to be spanned by any flooring. I want the new flooring to cover the slab and frost wall and get tucked under...

    Slab tilt

Okay, finally got around with some pics. Just bought a laser level (Lowes gift card from the kids). In this case the slab has tilted 9/16ths from the center of the house, which has a grade beam. The first pic shows the laser sitting on the grade beam, shooting a beam diagonally across the...

    Slab tilt

I'll see if I can get some tonight when I am home.

    Slab tilt

The slope is imperceptible, and a ball won't even roll. The problem is that new vinyl flooring will need to step up from the tilted floor to the stem wall. If I were laying down a 1.5" thick wood floor, I would just rabbet the ends or edges of the boards where they hit the step.

    Slab tilt

Need some insight here prior to putting down a new floor. House build 15 years ago, stem/frost wall with concrete slab. Slab is the finish floor (stained) and is tilting. Slab has radiant floor hydronic heating. Slab is not notched into the stem wall, but is butted up against the stem wall with...

    Multi-speed Drill Press

Rarely. Most of my DP work is now metal, and most woodwork drilling is sufficient with a cordless drill. If I have a large woodworking project, or one with more precision needs, I'll change the belt pulleys.

    Show your new tool arrivals

Just picked up this desktop Rockwell 15-017 DP for $50 on FBM. It was about 2.5 hrs away, but the wife and I were visiting family and it would be about a 40 min (roundtrip) out of the way jaunt on a 4 hr. trip. Picked it up on the way back from the visit. I believe it is the slow speed version...

Snow Getting in Pole Barn Ridge?

In snowy windstorms, like the 30-40 mph gusts happening right now, I will get similar invasions of snow in my pole barn garage, mostly from updrafts through the soffit vents. I am not worried. There is no evidence of pooling water, rot, etc.

Best idea for building a shop that can be moved

I'll add one more option. A grain bin. You will need to fashion into it an overhead door, and work out a non-concrete floor, but they are routinely erected and dismantled. The primary issue with deconstruction would be insulation, but large batts would be feasible and more easily removed.

How does this toolbox drawer lock work?

Perhaps, but here is the thing. . . drawers all slide smooth, only one drawer pull has some bend, and I don't really need the drawer locks. The interior rust really is only surface (at least what I can see), and a good cleaning, sanding, and primer should take care of it. Perhaps some Evaporust...

How does this toolbox drawer lock work?

I'll have to check out some of the observations and comments a bit later. Right now we are in the middle of a sleet/snow storm with a strong wind, and I need to triple check the tractor/plow set-up. Plus, the unheated garage is, well, unheated and about 25 deg.

How does this toolbox drawer lock work?

Here is the drawer mechanism that lifts the locking latches. First pic is the lever that *should* move with the opening and closing of the lid, but I don't see how that would work. The next pics show the lever mechanism after removing the cover, exposing the latching bar. The latching bar...

How does this toolbox drawer lock work?

Picked up this Mac toolbox as part of an auction win a month ago, with the intent to fully refurbish and use. The drawers do not lock and the latching mechanisms in the inside back of the cabinet (see pic) do not slide up and down. The lever that is inside the top portion of the box, presumably...

    End-wrench rolls

I got one of the Bucket Boss wrench rolls for my truck tools. I way overestimated its capacity to hold anything other than wrenches. I would buy one specially made for just wrenches and put in wrenches only. No screwdrivers, no ratchets, no nuthin'.

    Battery Drills

I believe you are correct! But, with that in mind, driving construction type screws is the domain of the impact driver, smaller and more delicate work needs to be done by hand or a drill.

    Stability of locking/leveling casters

Caster wheels are not steel. Frankly, I had not thought much about it, other than my floor would not roll metal wheels very well. The lever on the caster actually covers the caster, which could provide some protection from sparks, but I'll need to keep and eye out.

    Stability of locking/leveling casters

Timely thread. I just had my two oldest boys (home for T-giving) lift up a welding table I have (~320 lbs) onto a temporary gerry-rigged caster platform just so I can move the thing around the shop. But, as you know, too much movement. I just ordered the lever style retractable casters (black...

    Battery Drills

Just drilled a number of 3/8" holes in 1/2" steel with my Makita drill. Not only would the bits not fit in the impact driver, but what a racket and damage to the bits. Also, how would an impact drive hole saws, spade bits, and the like? Need both.

cordless tools set recommendation - drill, impact driver, oscillating tool?

Well, there are about a gazillion of these discussions, and none have answered the question aside from personal preference. For that money I think your best bet is Ryobi. As for battery longevity, there have been no complaints about Makita, save tor the high cost, and of course, the cost of the...

What is your favourite tool to use

Uggh. . . pry bars to me mean I'm in a bind. . .something is stuck, too heavy, too rusted. It is often a tool of last resort along with a BFH. Favorite. At this time my welder. I'm still a novice, but welding has opened up a whole new avenue of projects. The welder means I can fix something...
