Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

I have a 40hp rotary convertor in my shop. I’m in a residential setting and I have no problems starting it up. Been running it for about 3 years now. Just gotta have the power to do it. Proper wire size to the convertor is very important. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Neutral bar will not accept 2 ga wire - can I split neutral into two 6 ga wires?

Depending on the size and how many breakers you need, a new panel with a 200a main breaker is around $100-150 give or take. Cheaper for 100a main. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    5/8 Plywood

Plywood/OSB is more user friendly. With wood, you can just about hang anything anywhere. I’m not sure what you mean about safer unless your talking about fire rating. Remember, this is a garage/shop, not the inside of a house. The walls are going to get dirty, damaged etc, when that happens with...

Electric, cable, internet routing to building?

Typically it’s minimum 2”. PVC is 18” in the ground. GRC is 6” providing you’re not going under any roadways. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Static 3 phase converter wiring

Yes that’s correct. However I would put in a small ground bar as opposed to landing two wires under one screw. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

using engine hoist, legs in the way?

I always get a kick out of guys trying to lift heavy things with shade tree-backyard bob antics. When lifting anything heavy, things can go wrong in the blink of an eye. It’s not worth getting injured cause you were too cheap to get the proper equipment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Comfort Zone CZ230ER Thermostat Wiring

Whatever you do, don’t run the low voltage wire in with the power wiring like the op did. Major code violation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hex keys, straight or ball end?

I’ve put box end wrenches or vise grips on the small end when the fastener doesn’t cooperate. I have both styles but prefer the straight ones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Looking into purchasing micrometer set and dial bore gauge.

Back in my days as a boat mechanic, I rebuilt many outboards at the shop i worked at. We did all the boring/sleeving on site and we used Sunnen dial bore gauges. They are pricey though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Can all generators be wired to Transfer switches? (some plug load only?)

I always get a kick out guys who want to hack stuff in cause they’re cheap. Get the right generator and install it correctly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Supporting black iron pipe on concrete walls

Minnie’s (conduit support) work good for this. Strut is good to but more work. I used Minnie’s in my shop. Quicker. If you have multiple pipes to run, then strut would be the way to go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    40' Shipping Container Shed

I bought (2) 40’ high cubes a couple years ago. Paid $1700.00 each. One of the best things I ever did. You can’t build a shed that size for that kind of money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Wire sizing for lights

Not if it’s in conduit. Romex is garbage. Would never use that ****. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Shop power - conduit & boxes or flush outlets and Romex?

Extension cord and romex are very similar in construction. It’s insulated wire with a outer plastic jacket. Other then one being stranded and the other solid I’d say they’re very similar. MC cable is a step up but still inferior to conduit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Shop power - conduit & boxes or flush outlets and Romex?

Wrong. This is not a house it’s a garage/shop. I’ve added several machines over the last few years and have had to rearrange equipment to accommodate. A shop is always evolving. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Shop power - conduit & boxes or flush outlets and Romex?

In my opinion yes it’s garbage. Would you run extension cord in your walls? Romex is not much different. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Shop power - conduit & boxes or flush outlets and Romex?

What’s wrong with conduit in the walls? Romex is garbage in my opinion. Glorified extension cord in the walls. Conduit is better in every way. It’s not that much more to do it. You’ll be glad you did when it’s time to add/change things later. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

pls sanity check by subpanel plan

Not sure where you’ve worked for the last several years, but I’ve been using colored wire in the #8 through 750mcm size for the last 5 years at least. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Pole saw ideas.

Stihl kombi unit with the pole saw attachment is what I have and it’s a really nice unit. Best part is when you’re done with the saw you can take off that attachment and put on another one in less than a minute. I have the trimmer attachment and the sweeper along with the pole saw. I have one...

    How "Smart" are Smart meters?

It’s been my experience that you have about 1 1/2 to 2 min once it’s pulled. As soon as you pull the meter it stops responding. The power company will try to ping it and if doesn’t respond within the time frame then a trouble call goes in. I have a temp meter socket rigged up with so cord and...
