    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Build thread: Garage/Shop + Living Space in the PNW

Looks great. and good thinking. When we remodeled our bathroom, we ended up raising the whole floor after we discovered TJI's. You'll love the curbless shower.

Given the weather we've had, that's pretty impressive progress.

I only did the highbay above 8' this way. But here's some pics.

    Washington pole building radiant floors

Your first post suggests you will eventually want a combi system. Make sure you let Blueridge know your eventual plans. If you want a direct system, you'll need a different level of materials. An indirect system will require a heat exchanger.

You want them on roughly a 10' grid. 5' to the wall 10' between fixtures. Or in your case 6 lights.

    LED Lighting for 40' x 40' Shop - 13' Ceilings

I did hang my lights from unistrut. I realized a while ago that you're my neighbor. If you would like to stop by and take a look and talk let me know. I'll be around this weekend. I can also show you how the dimmer circuits work. I used these https://www.prolighting.com/jbarbay2.html and...

Lighting for a little metal building

3x3 or 3x4 4' linears are what you want. Kind of like this. I have 5 rows of 5 in a 24x40 space.

Hydronic Heat - 40x40x16 shop - Electric boiler, 2" XPS under/around slab, R19 walls, R35 ceiling... monthly electric bill estimates?

Another way to approach this is to multiply your electric cost per KWh x 27. This is the same amount of energy as a gallon of propane. In my area .10/Kwhx27 = $2.70 So it's actually less than propane right now. Did you choose a 19KW boiler based on a heat load calculation? Without a heat...

$9k more to go from 4 to 6'' of concrete

Read this first. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/the-concrete-undergrounds-guide-to-floor-slabs.382626/ And maybe things are more expensive in texas, but you should be less than $6 /sq ft and 6" shouldn't add more the $1/sq ft. Unless COVID ......................f

    LED Lighting for 40' x 40' Shop - 13' Ceilings

Look under the commercial section at "linear" highbays. This is very similar to what I have https://www.prolighting.com/commercial-lighting/fixtures-high-low-bay-high-bays/linearhighbays/pl-ethbl-170w-40k.html The ones you listed have replaceable T8 bulbs. I don't know enough about them to...

    LED Lighting for 40' x 40' Shop - 13' Ceilings

I am very happy with linear highbays. The light seems to be even and shadowing is minimized. I have 12 for a 30 x 40 space, so you would be at 16 for a 40x40. I used RAB 145 Watt Linear LED High Bay - 5000K - 19,939 Lumens - 120-277V for 16' height and have them dimmed about 50%. So, You...

Anyone know the price of plastic conduit prior to Covid inflation?

PVC and HDPE resin pricing remain volatile, and they have been significantly impacted by Hurricane Ida last week. We have seen some resin suppliers reclaim force majeure, and most PVC suppliers are announcing increases this week. We have also seen some suppliers move back to allocation for...

    New Workshop - need concrete!

I'm sure location has a big impact, but I paid $1.75per sq for a power troweled finish after I did all the prep work. I considered doing it myself in multiple pours. But I would have needed to rent the line pump multiple times and cash in a lot of chips with friends. Even with a couple of...

Doing It Right The First Time...

Here's to being old enough to encounter things we did 20 years ago. I'm currently building a detached shop and find myself looking over the electrical I did 20 years ago when I added a third bay to the detached garage and thinking " oh, that makes sense". By the way. I grew up in York and...

What to put on walls for outbuilding? Don’t want drywall

You could do steel horizontally. Or go with OSB or plywood. I think the steel is actually cheaper right now. By the way. Your floor is awesome!
