    Shop feeder wire source

I'm going to RQF from a local supply house some MHF. From the feedback here, a 125A 2-pole CB and a 2/0 wire will meet/exceed my needs. Looking at the options for 2/0 MHF there is 2/0-2/0-2/0-1 or 2/0-2/0-1-4 I am guessing the 2/0-2/0-2/0-1 is what I should run? I'm not as savvy on...

    Shop feeder wire source

Likely a fault of my misunderstanding of termonology again here. The main cb is 200A in the house, yes. I was thinking the "service size" question was asking cable size feeding the main panel

House panel is full, but a few of those circuits will free up once the shop is move in ready. The plasma, and 220 air compressor circuits as well as a retired in place electric stove would be available I'll pull the cover and see service size. Gas downstairs heat 3ton heat pump cooling 2ton...

    Shop feeder wire source

I think this is where my lack of electrician lingo is causing me issues. 4-4-4-2 from my internet-ing for MHF is 4/0 4/0 4/0 2/0 sized AL? Maybe I'm saying that wrong and need to inlcude the "/0"s First supply house local to me couldn't provide the but suggested two others that show up on...

    28x40 First draft plans critique

Thanks Russ! I meant to get in here sooner, but Yes I ended up with a much more "cookie cutter" build out due to cost restraints of the custom plans. As Russ pointed you to, the DBG shop build thread is available but less unique than originally designed. 28x40 with 12ft ceilings, clear span...

    Shop feeder wire source

I'm looking for suggestions or cautionary tale of where you've sourced large wire from. I'm located in SE VA During planning I speced 4-4-4-2 MHF direct burial AL wire for my 200A in my shop which is ~170ft run. I plan to upgrade my house service from the std 200A meter to a dual lug 400A...

Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Double Bee Garage (28x40 stick framed, 12ft ceiling with 10/12 pitch floored attic)

July 24-26: I started roughing out the knee walls. I ran out of time on Monday the 26th and have a bit left to finish on the south wall. I also started hanging the random assortment of electrical boxes downstairs to get a rough visualization of layouts and how many more I'll want (unphotoed)...

July 12th: Exterior pad form was put up, unfortunately to date the weather has been exceptionally wet so nothing has been laid down. They also removed the support stud in the middle of the attic. July 15th: Door company showed up. I also stopped and picked up a few studs to start...

I'm a few weeks late to keep this updated but my garage started back on May 7th. It was very slow going at first but as of today we are flooring the "attic"/second story. May 7th: The team showed up to dig and set-up for the footer Start of the day: Preps for the footer Steel beam...

Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Double Bee Garage (28x40 stick framed, 12ft ceiling with 10/12 pitch floored attic)

Middle Mid-Atlantic near the coast. I had considered plumbing originally, but long term plan at this house and investment to install it doesn't math. I'm on septic and would required a grinder/lift pump to get the plumbing tied into my existing system. The pit and pump alone are $3k+ to meet...

So after many years of designing, reading building code, AutoCad revisions, and dreaming, I realized that my time to value ratio to get my garage-mahal built myself was likely impossible. Although capable, life changes, two kids and more things to do than time allows I finally broke down and...

Above 1200 Sq/FT Freshy Fresh - Mountain High Workshop and Storage: 48x30

Looks like you get into some pretty good amount of work. I'm finding that my current "make it work" with an attached 2 car and one car stored inside is that its CONSTANTLY dirty due to wok in the "workshop" side of the garage. I'm planning a 28x40 and plan to have a 4 post 2-car storage bay...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT jbrentd's - Detached 2 + 1 Tandem w/ Patio

I've never understood the use to reverse direction personally. I just pour the oil into the fill cap? I got it as part of a purchase of a car as the PO said they had not plans to continue using it. I will likely Marketplace mine and pick up a Mityvac7300 before my next oil excavation venture...

only 1 water line ran to garage / options for hot water

My thought process for a similar situation (Planning a detached pretty far from the main structure, a single 3/4 PEX line supply will be planned and heating will be done within the new structure). Tank heaters (for lack of regular use (always keeping water warm) and space were ruled out...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT jbrentd's - Detached 2 + 1 Tandem w/ Patio

My only suggestion would have been should have gotten the air venturi extractor if you have shop air available. I have the same 7201 (iirc) and the level of effort is questionable for 8L of warm oil vice just hooking it up to an air chuck and letting it do the work.

One hobbyist welder to another: for a stronger weld you should bevel your joints to get better penetration for stronger welds. Half of welding is prep. air driven finger sander (or equivalent) is your best friend.
