    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT The Delta Garage - 24x40 in North Carolina

I'd love the info. I'm not sure what rules are in place if the "crossing state lines" would be an issue. I know my wifes license for PT work is only good in VA, I'm not sure if the architect stuff would be the same. I have nearly full plans save for some finish details (gable overhangs, beam...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT The Delta Garage - 24x40 in North Carolina

Following. You're about where I am now in my planning a 28x40 in SE VA. I luckily have some CAD access so I've got a rough drawing to send to an architect to get finalized. I'm unsure on the beam for my partial second to clear the 28' distance for a 12' wide 2nd before the other 28' goes to...

Build detached one car garage for office/theater, but convert back later?

From a DIYer point of view: I would frame the building for the garage door, but fill the door opening with standard framing like many do when converting a garage for your use. Then when it comes time to sell you just need to bust the wall out, cut whatever exterior covering you had put over...

40X60 Shop Build - Washington State

Sounds like a good excuse to go camping more. "Sorry babe, gotta stock up the wood pile. Winter is coming. I HAVE to go"

You don't know what you don't know, pre-planning detached 40x28

I'm in SE VA. I figured most MiniSplits wont do too well below 30 for heating as they are just heat pumps. My house upper zone HP is worn out and is pretty useless under 44 but has the NG alternate heat. Garage will be full sun exposed nearly all day and I don't plan to heat it too much during...

You don't know what you don't know, pre-planning detached 40x28

So developing things and working in my small attached has changed some initial design plans. The left bay will now be fully boxed in with a (planned) standard width (high lift) 4 post to accommodate "clean" storage of the cars. I'm tired of working in the "shop" and the car getting covered...

40X60 Shop Build - Washington State

Just went through this whole thread and the shop/room/build look awesome. I am in the early stages of planning and trying to get a solid plan built out before breaking ground. For Heating/cooling I am planning a mini-split system as well. I wanted to potentially add a small wood burner to...

Garage height versus length and width

I'm in the pre-planning stage of my own similar build. Without knowing what your intent on use is it's hard to say. My 28x40 will have a 28x28x14' interior ceiling with a 12x28x9.5' "workarea" off to the size with a second floor above and attic trusses planned over the 14' work bay to...

You don't know what you don't know, pre-planning detached 40x28

DWGs attached. I drove a full sized before I bought my Mid last year. At this house I can't see myself buying any full size or larger vehicles. Dream shop will be bigger and have more flexibility but my biggest issue is size restraints to the current plot layout shown in the OP. Decided on...

You don't know what you don't know, pre-planning detached 40x28

Unless sizing convention is a 9' door has an 8' wide opening, I cannot see where I measured them incorrectly. I also pulled up a phot and my 6" height siding has ~14 rows on top of the foundation wall which semi confirms my measurements were within reason.

You don't know what you don't know, pre-planning detached 40x28

The door openings are 8'x8' on the house. They have been taped already as I was looking at attached options previously.

You don't know what you don't know, pre-planning detached 40x28

I think the I beams are going to have to go the whole attic span and the "header" for the loft. I cant figure out how a steel beam will work with the loft in play. I'm open to suggestions and ideas It's whats on the house, and I haven't had issues. It's a straight shot into the doors and I...

You don't know what you don't know, pre-planning detached 40x28

Hey all, Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm in the early pre-planning of my first detached garage build. As the saying goes, you don't know what you don't know, so I am looking for what details I am missing or overlooking. And some help with some questions I've come across during my...
