I think that's a great idea, I mean it gives you room to play and maneuver stuff around IF you have to, never know what tomorrows needs are. Good that you could afford that choice.

Framing crew could be stuck on another site, maybe the GC knew the stairs would be a little later? But it is easier to cut a couple pieces of wood to fit the steel stairs than to adjust the stairs to fit the framing if anything is a little off. Progress still looks good.

    Electrical run in Concrete slab

I would at least run 3/4 PVC. IF not too much more $$ maybe even 1" PVC. More room to ADD another circuit if NEEDED, Like if someone might want to put a 2xx outlet for a table saw, lathe, or welder Near a 1xx outlet. ** because I want to avoid the 110,120,220,240 thing.

    Negative sloped driveway flooded- help!

That ***** and I am empathetic. It looks like that is not an uncommon design around you, I see it across the street in the photo, and it looks like your neighbour as well. I've seen that done around here, and never understood it, it rains, snows, and ices up around here in the winters. to me...

Blocking his window is a bummer. They might get less air flow and it looks a bit like less natural sun. BUT the sad fact of life is, if you live in a crowded city like Chicago, you have very little control what goes on next to you. As far as his "chest pains" I absolutely have no empathy for...

Drywall directly on interior concrete wall?

@ rlitman Thank you the the info, then my thought (even for the wrong reason) would be better than drywall on the OUTSIDE of the shelter/safe. EDIT: I just looked at the pic again. I meant the steel studs insulation and drywall on the INSIDE. I see wood studs inside, I THINK replace that w/...

    Retrofit digital doorbell to mechanical?

The first question I'll ask is, did your doorbell work BEFORE you installed the new one? I looked at their website, I sort of have issue with the fact they don't mention a voltage. AC door bell transformers like a tri voltage I think can be 8 to 24 volts. Also if your replacing an old intercom...

Drywall directly on interior concrete wall?

Not an expert, but the R value of drywall is less than 1. I don't see it insulating well against heat, could be way off base. I would think steel studs, insulation. Fiberglass w/o paper? Then drywall on the inside would be best to keep contents safe. And maybe a Halotron sort of extinguishing...

    Pulling wire

As N & T said, I wouldn't waste too much time fussing around. IF you can isolate and disconnect ALL the wire you could use a tone generator and trace your path. CUT nice sized holes, or a complete strip of drywall. Use the old drywall to patch. Yeah it will be more time up front, but you WILL...

Wow those guys are really moving, Looks like you found a good contractor. Get's the project done in reasonable time and moves on to the next. Yeah...Lots of neighbors like that, "I got mine, screw you" If he's been there a long time I bet a lot of his work isn't permitted. Not up on current...

    Wire Dryer vs, WD40

I know people have used WD-40 on contacts, yeah it works for a few minutes, but as it displaces water whatever it leaves behind attracts dust and dirt, the dust and dirt helps hold on to moisture, and the problem re-appears, usually as a big gummy mess...Clean it of with WD-40 again, and repeat...

Upper decks are not that uncommon in new builds in Chicago. I think they can be cool. Not a fear monger, but I would be getting an extra underground conduit for phone/data and security camera...YEAH, YEAH I know, WIFI..BUT nothing like hardwire when you can. you will be going through lots of...

What’s the average hourly rate for an electrician?

I did access and security cameras I was @ 90 hour for a service call IF it was close to "home" over 10 years ago. I think for "side job" that's high. But also he went and got parts, that means he went someplace stood in line, paid money out of his pocket...up front....THEN came and worked, so...

Adding Dead Bolt to Steel Door

It's probably hollow. Get an Ames door lock support. They are made for hollow doors. Just keep in mind you are probably adding THE LOOK of security, more than any real security. Yeah it might slow someone down, but cheap hollow steel doors bend easy enough.....

    Romex in EMT Conduit

Try polywater cable loosener. I researched it a long time ago for some communication wire that rusted in place in a long run of underground conduit. We didn't use it because it was a remodel and it we could easily run fresh conduit in the ceiling...
