    32x40 w/ attic trusses

here i dug through the frost and installed 2" vertical insulation and 4" horizontal to protect against frost heave. I've got so much good gravel that i could have gotten away without this step, but since the ground will freeze before the garage (and it's weight) will be on the slab, i took this...

    32x40 w/ attic trusses

Here's some pics after a few loads of pit run went down and some forms magically appeared. Also note my daughter, who apparently can fly.

    32x40 w/ attic trusses

here are a couple taken the same day as the first pics. My family cleaning the inside of our camper and winterizing it. look at my two year old who climbed to the top of the ladder when we both weren't looking for about 20 seconds... he's trouble, or we are bad parents! :D

    32x40 w/ attic trusses

Hi I'm new here. I poured my slab last week, and spent my time since then digging around it, stripping the forms and placing wing insulation down prior to backfilling and grading. One side at a time. bear with me i'll dig up some picks. These are of the build site just after clearing, and my...

    Septic questions

The comment about 10k being less then a new or relocated system is correct. To replace any system is going to be expensive. probably cheaper to hook into sewer. But if that isn't an option, and your lot set backs are too restrictive for a conventional field, then think about a tertiary...

    Grading / Draining options

i don't know if you found a solution but here's a couple pics of a garage i built this season where i had to cut into a slope. I did what you said, about a skidsteer bucket width away, put in a weeper and sloped away from the slab then built a retaining wall with the stone i excavated from the...

    Northern walk out

cool start to the build. i like to see the asv.. is that a sr80? I've got a pt60, powerful machines for their size. Where in the north are you? I'm in Northwestern Ontario. I'm also assuming you meant ICF (insulated concrete forms), are you using Nudura brand? just curious, it's what i like...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT Woody's Works Garage

Re: 8ft to 10ft ceiling in 8 hours, $650 ?? hey Denwood, I'm from Thunder Bay also, started reading your thread and the reference to Unitized truss manufacturer clued me into your location. A coincidence since I was in talking with Luke today... they are great to work with. Your "backlane...

    enclosed garage lean to

sorry to take so long to respond. but yes. our frost depth is 4'6" so you can either auger and use sonneau tubes and cement to that depth, or excavate a hole, rest a concrete slab at the bottom or pour 4" of concrete at the bottom of the hole, then sit a pressure treated post on the concrete...

Garage placement help please. My first post!

Im finding out about the snow load issues with the truss designer right now. Our local code says that if we built with a truss wider than 32ft. The pad needs to be designed and inspected by an engineer. Then costs start to climb.. overkill rebar, 4" insulation beneath entire pad plus wing...

    enclosed garage lean to

depends on local codes, local determined frost depth, and the span between posts. also, if your going to bury them and backfill with compacted gravel, I would recommend wrapping them in 6mil poly (vapour barrier) to help reduce friction and reduce frost heave.

Garage placement help please. My first post!

@RVDan; I've already begun the long journey of sorting through the garage gallery... and your right, theres ton of info, not easy to find any specific answers though. I had an idea while looking through them, to catagorize them, there should be a special format for naming your thread, such as...

Garage placement help please. My first post!

Hi Everyone. I'm in Northwestern, Ontario, Canada. Three hours east of us had 4" of snow a week ago, and i need to get a garage built (or at lease the pad poured) before the ground freezes. I'm almost decided upon a 32 x 40 x 10 with side entry. I'm struggling with a couple decisions. The...
