Cheaper and low maintenance vs drywall

Drywall. I did my drywall in my shop after comparing to OSB, plywood, PVC panels, and FRP. The only close initial cost was OSB which after all the coats of paint it costs even more then drywall. I used 1x6 PVC board along concrete for kick protection then 12ft drywall panels hung vertical...

    High(er) Quality Consumables

Where did you get the GRK screws? Those are so hard to find, but truly top notch. Ditch Energizers and go Lithium.

Looking for recommendations- Automatic electrical cord reel?

How do you like the Vevor reels? I try to buy all American but I'm struggling to find all American reels. A couple assembled in America but none all American. Unrelated but I hate how we sold out on technicalities "made in America with international parts" "assembled in America" "American...

    Vapor barrier

After much consideration I skipped vapor barrier above the metal ceiling. I did blow cellulose on top of the liner panel ceiling though. Thus far 0 condensation during -5 or 95 degree midwest weather [we get literally everyweather condition possible] . The walls are 1.5 closed cell then r11...

    Baseboards for the shop??

I used 1x4 white PVC planks from big blue box store. I like the durability of the pvc over drywall, it allowed me to keep drywall 3/4in off floor and looks great. I have used the rolls of baseboard and just not enough durability to protect drywall. If OSB/Plywood wall I may change my mind.

    Radiant hanging tube reviews/advice

If the shop is staying closed, radiant is not the best choice. If the doors are opening or closing, often, then radiant heat is great. If the building is staying closed then forced air, normal hvac, is better. Radiant heat warms up items so they retain heat, hence its great for drafty...

    30x40x12 Great Value shop.

What are yall doing for air exchange? HRV and ERV systems are more than I want to spend and when it's cold I really don't want to open the garage doors. I have considered two fans one out one in. Thoughts? Floor buffer/cleaner - anyone using the cheaper version of the floor buffers? They have...

    30x40x12 Great Value shop.

Slowly getting photos to highlight work done. Installed 18k btu senville extreme weather mini split. Hung, mud, tape drywall. Framed and build bathroom (the glass door was one I had left over from another job). Used pvc for kickplates at bottom of drywall. Painted [excuse painters tape]...

    Vinyl soffit for ceiling?

White steel or white pvc. https://farmerboyag.com/corrugated-panel-20-ft-4-in-l-x-3-ft-w-pvc-white/ The soffit will work, I've seen it but over long runs it's never straight.

    Newer Heat pump question

Read the tech data. Most heat pumps lose efficiency at 47f and bottom out at 17f. Higher end, hyper heat, models heat to -22. I have cheap mini split heat pumps that barely give off heat at 17f and I have a top of line 4ton heat pump that works fine at 0. Short story read the tech data on...

    DIY Solar

There is a solar forum which this has come up multiple times. Short answer almost impossible to do while keeping grid tied. If off grid then use an "island" invertor. Solar ark has a great solution for this with batteries.

    DIY Solar

Dcg - I have a physical disconnect as well. It's bottom my meter. I'm at a loss of why you are saying it's dangerous. Regarding your interest I don't know Jack about all the companies but SMA is on point. Solark is another great off grid option. If I add batteries I'll go SMA Sunny Island...

    Framing - sill plate

Do not skimp in this area. Think about exterior water intrusion. What's the fall from the sill, for rain water? I recommend caulking, foam, and good flashing. You'll combat water intrusion under the sills if you don't do this right. Many threads on this exact issue.

    DIY Solar

Well I guess our experiences are different. My home system does not expose you or anyone one to the 500v in the lines because it's plug and play mc4 connectors. This was not a "diy" kit, it was all parts which three companies were going to use but I installed myself instead. My ROI is under...

    DIY Solar

I did and continue to look. If I were to add batteries I've priced it on low end at $15000 and higher end over $35000. I would have to AC couple, so an off grid inverter, and I need 30kw in batteries to comfortably last a cold winter day. Telsa batteries are $9850 installed, 13.5kw LG resu...

    DIY Solar

I did not use batteries and am grid tied due to batteries cost and ROI over 10years with power consumption limitations. My house and shop are 100% electric, minus outdoor BBQ grill. Water heater is heat pump, hvac heat pump, stove, over, dryer are electric. I used factory solar connectors...
