It does not need to be done 'properly' at all, just needs to have a near mirror-finish or as close as can be had with my tools on hand. I do not have a mill nor access to one. I have a 6'' Chinese bench grinder and a good 4.5 inch 9 amp Makita angle grinder. Is there any way to do this job...

This is true, the old adage 'The market value is what someone will pay' rings true here.

I see on ebay people asking outlandish prices for any vintage Cman or other name brand vise as well. Wonder if anyone actually bites at those prices.

Asking price was around USD 60. He ended up parting it out, so no new vise to restore for me :mad:

Does the spindle nut on a 51871 have the slanty end toward the dynamic jaw or facing away from the static jaw? I attached a picture below (gjv2.jpg) that shows the nut (spindle nut.jpg) in both orientations, the nut will fit both ways so that is why I am asking. The bottom bolt had fallen out...

Yes, that is a sweet green, the Garage Journal user who posted it hasnt logged on since 2015, but they stated that it is a Chyrysler green color fro the 50s-60s I do like that Green :thumbup:
