    Drill Bit for Metal

Hello everyone, Please recommend drill bits that drill through metal. Do I need titanium, cobalt, carbide, high speed steel? I occasionally drill through metal that can be 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick and also through sheet metal. The size of the hole can be from 1/16 up to 3/4 inch. Most of the...

1-1/4" offset from stud face or face of osb/sheetrock?

Let me try to clarify if I can. sanddanThis is in a pole barn. The 2x4 is a girt that runs horizontal to the ground. The cable will run on top of the girt(parallel to it) but offset back against the pink insulation using cable stackers. This will keep the cable 1-1/2 inches from the face(the 4...

1-1/4" offset from stud face or face of osb/sheetrock?

Thanks for the replies. The cable is there just to show the distance from the cable to the front of the box or mud ring. The cable will actually be entering the box from the side. I will have the cable offset from the face of the girt(stud) by 1-3/4 inch. Where it enters the box is the...

1-1/4" offset from stud face or face of osb/sheetrock?

Will this pass code? The front of the metal box is flush with the face of the stud. From the cable to the front of the stud(metal box) is 1 inch. From the cable to the front of the mud ring is 1-1/2 inch. Is the 1-1/4 inch cable offset measured from the face of the stud(metal box) or from the...

    Wall framing question

Most pole barns are built with the girts for the exterior walls spaced 2 feet apart horizontally and the metal is screwed to it. I don't think the interior would be any different. You would just substitute plywood for the metal.

Bottom Girt on top of Concrete Floor

Gentlemen, thanks for the input. Here's a thought (I've had some before:headscrat). A solution would be to attach the 2x directly to the concrete floor and not the poles. This 2X would float with the concrete floor. Then about 3 inches up, attach another 2x to the poles. This will make a space...

Bottom Girt on top of Concrete Floor

The frost heave I am concerned about is the floor moving and not the poles. The poles are 4 ft deep. If the floor heaves it could pull the poles up with it if I set the bottom girt on the floor and attach them to the poles .

    Cable Stacker for romex

Thanks everyone for your help. Much appreciated. I am trying to run horizontally along the girt as teamextreme said, but pushed back against the pink. I was thinking of cutting off only the triangle side as CJ7VFR said, on the one I've shown and screwing the other side (flat part) onto the...

    Cable Stacker for romex

Here are some pictures of the area I am talking about. Staples will not work. Trying to find a cable stacker the would sit on the 1-1/2 inch edge of the girt and would hold the romex back towards the pink insulation. Something like the one in the last picture below but sits on the 1-1/2" edge...

Bottom Girt on top of Concrete Floor

Here is a picture of the interior wall. The pink is my insulation. The grey is the poured concrete floor. The girt in the picture is 2 ft above the floor. The bottom girt will be at the floor. How should the bottom girt be attached that would allow for frost heave? Thanks

    Cable Stacker for romex

I am looking for a cable stacker to mount on the 2x edge of a 2x4 girt and will hold the cable towards the exterior wall. It will be mounted the 2x edge on the interior girts. Doing this to maintain the 1-1/4 inch set back I understand is needed for code. The ones I have seen mount on the...

Bottom Girt on top of Concrete Floor

The girt I am referring to is on the inside and will be on top of the concrete floor (not the "Mud Girt"). The interior OSB wall will be fastened to it. The girt will be on the inside of the 6x6 poles. Do I just place it on the concrete and then fasten it to the poles or some way else. The...

Bottom Girt on top of Concrete Floor

I thought I read somewhere here about not placing the interior bottom girts directly on the concrete floor or not attaching it to the 6x6 poles because of frost heave. The theory was that it could cause the poles to move. If that's the case, how should the bottom girts be attached. This would...

Who has Pole Building Insulated Metal Ceiling & Gets Condensation

If it's say 30 degrees outside and the garage is not heated, would turning on an electric heater cause condensation since the metal ceiling is the same temp as the outside at that time?

Who has Pole Building Insulated Metal Ceiling & Gets Condensation

Most likely with electric heat. I'm also concerned that a hot engine on a cold day might cause condensation but I don't know. I'm not insulating the inside of the roof. The above plan is to install metal liner panels onto the bottom of the truss and then have the vapor barrier, rigid foam and...

Who has Pole Building Insulated Metal Ceiling & Gets Condensation

This is what I am planning for the ceiling of my pole garage. Will I get any condensation? Does anyone have the following in their pole building? "A" frame truss 6. Top of Truss w/Ridge Vent Peak 5. Air Space 4. Blown in insulation 14 inches 3. Rigid polyiso 2 inches 2. Vapor Barrier 1...

Filling large hole in basement wall

If it is a cold storage room, I would block off the vent to see if any condensation will start due to lack of air circulation. Go thru at least the beginning of the heating season where the outside temps are < 50 degrees. I have a similar room that was not vented. During the summer, it was ok...

    Did you OSB?

Did I OSB? Not yet. Did anyone follow the spacing suggestion (1/16?) at the seems or just **** it up to each other?
