Garage mini-split + propane heater results

Thanks for sharing, I am contemplating a similar mixed setup with the mini split and a propane tube heater. I have a heat pump on the house so the I agree with you that the backup propane heater is necessary when we get as cold as it has been. Does that thermostat app give you the total run...

    Door size

I did a 12x12 in mine and love the extra width over a 10' door. Don't have to be as careful maneuvering in and out. Backing a trailer or anything like that in is much nicer. Edit: I missed the 22' wide part, obviously wider than I was talking haha. If you are worried about heat loss have you...

    ok wood stove people

I'm a new wood stove guy this year as well. I've gone with smaller kindling and hit is with the map torch for a bit to get it to go. I found that warms the chimney up fairly quick to get a draft going. I leave the door open about a minute or so after it is lit. I'm sure my method will change...

Like half of the country we are getting our first real snow storm of the year. So I pulled a few of the Rovers in yesterday before they became buried for the year. I left some room around them to get some electrical done along with working a a couple here and there. Too small as always but I...

Glutton for punishment with all the British stuff laying around haha. But no, those are obviously my favorite. I decided against pouring in the in ground right away as I couldn't land on a for sure layout and didn't want to end up messing that up. I'll cut the floor and pour it in whenever I...

In between working on the new shed I also have some projects happening on the LS3 Defender in the little garage. Converted this radiator over to dual pass and got the mounted up. Also picked up this little death trap. One owner, 1982 ATC110. It's been sitting for a bit, I have the...

The Range Rover Camper makes this place feel small as expected. The garage door showed up last week. Perfect timing as we are going to see subzero temps this week and I really didn't want to tackle that job in that weather. Just a basic roll up door. Being I'm leaving the ceiling open I...

So have a little catching up to do. I didn't grab a ton of pictures of the trenching. But Trenched in some water pipe from the well by the house and electrical wire from the meter to the new shop. Kind of had to rush that as frost was setting in and we already had the ground frozen about 5"...

    Industrial Metal Desks

Very neat, They are some of the coolest desks in my opinion. I got one of those and a matching side cabinet at an auction last year. Mine is green with brown leather. I'm missing the front to one of the slide out trays though.

    Monopour Foundation Cost in 2022

Not a comparison by any means because it is just a slab in a finished pole barn and I did the prep work. But I did my 30x48 at about 6" thick for about 8800 all in. $1000 in rebar $600 in 1" insulation $200 in vapor barrier $3500 in concrete (~$130 a yard) $3500 Labor (Just for the pour and...

UV lights for well water system

I have one at my house, seller had to install it before we could close to pass water test. It didn't pass before, passed after install. Supposed to replace the bulb every year. I went 3 years before the bulb died. Other than that I don't really think about it much.

Despite the weather dropping they got the concrete poured, placing the concrete and spray foam is the only stuff I plan on outsourcing. Glad I did as that looks like something that could have gone wrong for me. They came ahead of the concrete truck and had their heater going to warm the shop up...

I'll have spray foam done on the walls and roof. Kind of looking like that will happen next year, running out of time for winter. We had to replace the clutch in that Evora, quite the process for that. It is a neat car, does feel kit car ish but more refined than the Elise. But my honest take...

I may be getting some sort of break for being an all electric home as well, I know our provider has some programs for that. I currently don't have any gas on the property. This year winter 1st step is $.099 per kWh. winter 2nd step is $.077 per kWh. Last year 3rd step went to $.039 per kWh. So...

Yes, once I get the figure back from them I can crunch some numbers. I'll have a few scenarios to run. Being the house is all electric I'm on a stepped electrical rate, so in the winter months I hit their 3rd step which is a significant drop in price per kWh. But I'll also have to run it by my...

Concrete is getting dumped tomorrow. The temp around here has made the winter swing, so the guys placing the concrete stopped by today to get their heater in the shop along with covering the overhead door hole. They also went over everything I did to make sure it was all good to go. Power...

They are coming sometime next week, we'll probably have to heat the space at night for a few days. He wanted to get a few outside projects done this week with the nice weather so that is fine with me.

We've had some really neat sunsets here over the last few weeks. Got the drains set into place, so started working on get the rest of the gravel base in there and leveled out. Here it is all compacted and ready to lay some foam down. Nothing crazy insulation wise, but just wanted some...

    New build/sticker shocked

Yep, if you did the total 30x52 with the one overhang I came up with just shy of 20 yards. Add in 76 sticks of rebar on top of that as well. Around here some contractors are placing simple slabs around $5.50-6 a sq. ft all in. That would be 8500-9500 on the low end for just the concrete part of...

    New build/sticker shocked

Just to give you a rough idea on material cost. I went through Menards for mine, no insulation, no doors, no windows, just an opening for a single 12x12 overhead. The lumber and steel was right around $20,000. 30x48x16 like I mentioned before.
