    Adventures with Air Compressors

Yup, I am so cheap I can make $10 last for a month. The only thing I bought was a couple of pipe fitting adaptors. I bartered for the pressure switch (I traded an old axe for it) and the regulator I had from a job I did cleaning out an old barn (I got lots of useful stuff that the old boy let me...

Old engine oil as wood stain

I use a roughly 50/50 mix of used motor oil and kerosene or diesel on my trailer deckings and on some fences and out buildings. Its carcinogenic, its a terrible thing to do, you will go to hell if you do it.....and it works great.

    Adventures with Air Compressors

At the beginning of last fall my el-cheapo 26 gal Job Smart air compressor that I got for about $65 at a yard sale (brand new, still in the box) blew the regulator all apart which also destroyed the cast manifold and the cheap pressure switch. I ended up getting a Kobalt 30 gallon (really happy...

Show us your WORKING Work bench

I have a couple of shops but this is my main farm shop. Mostly just getting the equipment ready for spring but I also am in the middle of a resto on an industrial stool, an old Sears belt sander, and a 1950 Okeefe and Merrit stove for the Mrs out of this shop. In the back of the shop I have a...

    American Made Trash Cans

Personally I like posts like this for the inspiration. I may not be able to pay $240 for a nice trash can like that but I can get ideas to find an old used one at a flea market or some such and make a project out of it. The older I get the more I just appreciate the simplicity and durability of...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Just out of curiosity, why not tie into the existing fence and do away with that narrow space between the two fences?

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Nice looking and sounds great, do you have a build thread? I'm looking for a one lunger or a small (400cc or less) twin for a project to give to a hard up buddy and looking for inspiration.

    Warning about Fastenal

Thanks for the perspective guys, the local store here doesn't have much in inventory but the on-line catalog is nicely laid out and for some things the prices are a lot cheaper than I can get locally. I will have to give McMaster-Carr a try.

    Warning about Fastenal

I recently ordered some bearings from Fastenal and in the process took a look at their on-line catalog and I was completely unaware that they carried such a diverse amount of products. They even have machinist supplies and Holy smokes this is going to be an expensive find! :D

    I Want a Drill Press...Help

I bought the Porter Cable DP from Lowes a couple months ago after looking at most of the $300 or less price range DPs and I really like it. Its quiet, smooth, and at least on mine it has minimal run-out. I am currently saving for a lathe and I will eventually have a mill but for me starting...

Just the chip tray has me drooling. That's an interesting tool post too, what is it and any close ups of it?

    Harbor freight welder

Hell, I cut out a 2 foot rusty section of my pickups frame and welded in a patch with the HF 90 amp flux core welder and its held up pretty well. It sags a little and one of the welds has a crack but I just took it on a 300 mile trip and it has held up so far (knock on wood!). Wink wink...

I got this crazy home brew belt sander for free; came out of an old barn. I haven't checked the motor and it will need a rewire (not grounded) but its actually pretty well sorted out and I could use it.
