I had the upper (older) one and lost it. I then bought the newer one and soon thereafter Murphy's Law applied and I found the lost one. They are essentially equivalent tools to me... Hold a gun to my head and I would pick the newer one with the flared end.

If you stick to the standard red, it is often easier to find used side boxes or top chests years down the road... That said, if it was me, I'd get the black because it looks cool and doesn't show dirt nor does any spots where you might use a little touch up paint.
