Doesn't even specify handles. Code says no more than six circuit breakers grouped as a means of disconnecting or spread across multiple locations. What happens if I have a 6/12 panel full of tandems :P That's why I dumbed it down to 6 slots.

In a separate building, you need a main disconnect if there are more than six slots in the panel. Easiest way to do this is with a breaker and hold-down kit, but you could also put in a non-fused disconnect before the sub panel.

When they get their inspectors in there (and you better believe they will) and they determine the cause of the fire was something a CAFCI would have prevented, or at least made you aware of an issue with the circuit, you're SOL.

Putting AFCIs on older circuits is a damn nightmare a lot of the time. If you retrofit your panel with AFCIs, I can guarantee you that you will be rerunning some circuits to stop a few from tripping. And that's even if there is an AFCI breaker made at a reasonable cost for your panel.
