    Protecting Aluminum

    It depends on what you plan to do with the aluminum. A RoHS compliant chromate conversion will provide some corrosion resistance and will promote good paint adhesion. Anodize will provide better corrosion resistance and a harder surface. Anodize is more costly than chromate.

    Starrett 98-8

    Well, that explains the need for replacement. It seems to me that one should be able to take the vial assembly apart and install a new vial. I have no experience with this. So, I can't provide any guidance.
